Week 13 Running Backs

1 - Chris Johnson – TEN @ DET – Johnson running against the Lions defense isn’t just unfair, it’s borderline criminal. Lendale will soften up the 32d ranked rush defense and Johnson will put them away. Johnson has a burst of speed that will leave the lions defenders nothing to tackle this week.

2 - Ronnie Brown – MIA @ STL – Brown has been one of the stories of the year at running back in a year that the rookies have stolen the show. His return from the injured list to a place among the top running backs in the league is something Hollywood couldn’t have wr itten any better. He faces a Rams defense that spends a lot of time on the field and rapidly wears down. Brown and Williams will wear them down early just like Matt Forte and the Bears did last week.

3 - Adrian Peterson – CHI @ MIN – The phrase “throw the records out in this one” is well overused, but seems to fit this match up. The Bears give up less than 90 yards per game on the ground, yet every time Peterson plays the Bears he puts up big numbers. Look for the trend to continue this week with Peterson on the carpet at home.

4 - Joseph Addai – IND @ CLE – As Manning and the Colts start to fire on all cylinders, they get a match-up made in heaven for them, the hapless Cleveland Browns. Brady Quinn seemed to be their savior, but he’s gone for the year so the Browns are back to being the Browns. Look for Indy to go up early and pound Addai inside during the entire second half.

5 - Matt Forte – CHI @ MIN – Forte and the Bears go to Minnesota to face the Vikings and their 2d ranked run defense, so why is Forte in the top 10 with a bad match-up. He keeps getting better and better each week and not only does he put up solid rushing numbers, he’s one of the best pass caching running backs in the league, ranked 4^th in receiving by running backs a nd 3^rd in yards from scrimmage.

6 - Frank Gore – SF @ BUF – as frank Gore goes so does the 49ers offense, 5^th in yards from scrimmage among running backs, facing a mediocre Bills run defense, but a Bills teams still without quality win in over 5 weeks. Gore is the security outlet for Shaun Hill and shows no signs of slowing down due to his age.

7 - DeAngelo Williams – CAR @ GB – Green Bay got eaten alive by Pierre Thomas and an injured Deuce McAllister on Monday night. Okay so some guy named Brees had something to do with it also, but the Panthers have shown the ability to run on anyone. Line them up against a 27^th ranked Packers run defense and it’s more of the same from DeAngelo.

8 - Thomas Jones – DEN @ NYJ – Denver has trouble week after week with running backs, whether it’s keeping theirs healthy or keeping their opponents under 150 yards rushing. In come the resurgent Jets, Brett Favre and Thomas Jones. Cutler’s confidence ahs been shaken the last couple of weeks and it is showing in their time of possession. Jones will rack up good combined yardage as New York dominates the Time of Possession in this one.

9 - Maurice Jones-Drew – JAC @ HOU – The human bowling ball keeps knocking over defenses and a Texans defense giving up over 130 yards per game doesn’t look to put him in the gutter this week.

10 - LaDanian Tomlinson – ATL @ SD – Tomlinson continues to be relevant in the fantasy running back arena. Even in a shabby loss to the Colts last week he put up over a hundred yards of total offense. Look for the Chargers to spread the field with Chambers, Gates and Jackson to open up rushing lanes for Tomlinson this week against a mediocre Falcon's run defense.

Week 13 Top 10 Quarterbacks

1) Peyton Manning (IND @ CLE)- Peyton has thrown at least 2 touchdowns in his last five games, and should continue that streak this week against an average Brown's defense. He remains a must start.

2) Tony Romo (DAL vs. SEA)- Romo threw for 341 yards and 3 touchdowns in his second game back from injury. In week 12 he locked in on TO (connecting for 213 yards) and should have another HUGE game this week against Seattle's terrible pass defense. The Seahawks allow 259 yards/game through the air and only have 5 interceptions on the year.

3) Kurt Warner (ARZ @ PHI)- Warner had his second straight game with one touchdown (and also one interception). Despite the lack of TD's he's still putting up big yardage, throwing for over 328 yards in five straight games. Even in his "bad" games he won't disappoint and remains a must start.

4) Drew Brees (NO @ TB)- Brees followed up a sub-par week 11, with a monster game against the Packers on MNF. After a 323 yard/4TD game, he now leads the league in passing yards and is second in touchdowns. Brees has a tough matchup this week against the Bucs, but did put up good stats in their week one showdown (343 yards, 3 TD's).

5) Matt Ryan (ATL @ SD)- The good news: Ryan had a another solid outing in week 12 throwing for 259 yards against the Panthers. The bad news: He's now gone 2 straight games without a touchdown, after going three straight with at least 2 TD's. Look for Ryan to bounce back with a favorable match up against the leagues worst passing defense.

6) Philip Rivers (SD vs. ATL)- Rivers will have a bad game every now and then, but is still a high-end QB, as he leads the league with 23 touchdowns. He rebounded from a poor week 11 performance with 288 yards and 2 touchdowns last week against the Colts. Look for another solid outing against the Falcons.

7) Brett Favre (NYJ vs. DEN)- Favre remains a solid fantasy option as he continues to keep his turnovers down. He's thrown 5 touchdowns in his his last three games (with only one interception) and has a good match up this week against a Denver pass defense who are next to last in the league in interceptions (4 interceptions on the year).

8) Matt Cassel (NE vs. PIT)- Cassel became the first quarterback in Patriots history to throw consecutive 400 yards games, as he threw for 415 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Dolphins in week 12. He has an insanely tough match up against the Steelers this week, but it's tough to go against a guy that has been this hot. Starting Cassel this week is a bit risky, and really comes down to what your other options are.

9) Jay Cutler (DEN @ NJY)- Cutler has been s streaky quarterback this season and is currently in a bad stretch (week 11= 216yds, 1 TD, week 12= 204yds, 0TD, 1 INT). This isn't a great matchup for Cutler, but there is always that potential for him to throw for big numbers.

10) Chad Pennington (MIA @ STL)- Pennington threw for 341 yards and 3 touchdowns in week 12 after poor performances in his previous two games. He has a favorable match up in week 13 that makes his a decent option.

Hatty's Afternoon Delight

It has been an interesting day in the fantasy world with teams scrambling to get rosters optimized for the short week. I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Thanksgiving holiday whether you are staying at home or traveling to visit with family. For those who have not gotten the chance be sure to check out Hatty's Waiver Wire video for Week 13 and get those requests in ASAP. He has some great recommendations this week and everyone needs to start focusing on the playoffs.

Some of the bigger news today:

FWP Down Again
For those Willie Parker owners who did not handcuff Mewelde Moore I am extremely sorry for you. It looks like if FWP plays at all this week it will be limited and MM has been huge in replacing him week after week. As an owner who personally nabbed Moore I have been impressed beyond belief at his ability to step in and put up numbers beyond that of Parker almost every week he has been the starter. This week I would recommend Mewelde for the starting lineup as he always seems to find the end zone no matter what defense they are facing.

Brian Westbrook
Westbrook is injured and likely will be through the rest of the season. He is a trooper though and will play this week. He may be limited so if you have better options he certainly has not been the Brian Westbrook fantasy owners love but you never know when he will explode. I recommend grabbing Lorenzo Booker in case BW takes a hit that he cannot come back from. Buckhalter is out so if BW goes down, Booker will inherit the job.

RIP Shaun Alexander
Released by the Redskins today this likely was his last chance at staying on a roster.

Texans Running Game
Ahman Green was placed on IR which means that Steve Slaton will once again be the primary back. For anyone who owned Green you may want to nab Ryan Moats will will serve as a backup to Slaton. Steve Slaton returns to a must start in all leagues.

Brady Quinn
It is never good when an athlete is going to visit Dr. James Andrews and that is where Quinn is heading with problems on his index finger. His fractured right index finger has caused some inaccuracy issues so for those who see Derek Anderson on the bench, grab him now in case the injury prevents Quinn from getting back on the field.

That is all for today. This week is key for playoff contenders as well as for teams locked in looking to solidify their lineups for the post season run. One of the best ways to prevent that 3rd or 4th place team from getting hot is to monitor the wire and prevent them from picking up that late addition that gets hot during the playoffs. Treat each week as though you are fighting for the playoffs and continue to make your team better.

Hatty's Afternoon Delight

Well Sunday proved to be a great day of football and some players had huge games and others layed an egg. What else is new is you are a fantasy football fan? This edition of the Afternoon Delight will recap some of the day's big stories as well as touch on the implications for the rest of the season as the playoff picture in most leagues should be clearer now.

Denver Running Game
Peyton Hillis has filled in admirably for a depleted Broncos running game and for fantasy owners who were benefiting from either Torain, Pittman or any other RB they have pulled off this year you were rewarded if you stuck with the system. If you are a Hillis owner nab Selvin Young as he is expected back next week and is sure to see carries in the midst of Denver posting a 3 game losing streak.

Brady Quinn
Don't drop the kid after one bad day, especially if you have him in a dynasty league. He is still the Browns starting QB. I think Romeo is starting to come apart at the seams personally after he quick trigger finger on Quinn as the starter. He will be under center again this week and if the Browns season keeps going the way it has expect Romeo to be on the hot seat.

Dunn and Done
Warrick Dunn rewarded fantasy owners with a nice outing Sunday in which he had 90 rush yards, 37 receiving yards and a Teeder. Gruden stated that he will continue to be the Bucs primary rusher with Earnest Graham out for the year. If by miracle he is still on your wire grab him NOW.

Dolphin Down
Greg Camarillo, who has been a pleasant filler this year for owners, is now out for the season after being injured Sunday. There were no details on the injury yet but he looks to be out for the year which not only hurts owners who had him but also any team who has Chad Pennington.

Da Iggles
Sorry to the Eagles fans out there but this team is in trouble. The McNabb benching was flat out weird. Kudos to Andy Reid for trying to do something to spark the team but not sure if that was the right move. Westbrook is banged up and may miss Week 13 and Correll Buckhalter sprained his MCL and is expected to miss a few weeks. Westbrook owners, do yourself a favor and stash Lorenzo Booker in case he goes down since he is the main back listed after Buckhalter.

Lendale "Jelly Donut" White
This guy is worthless in my opinion but he has put up some decent weeks along the way this year. In case you missed his post game commentary he was basically crying at only having 3 carries. His value is destined to decrease in the next few weeks.

Sunday Morning Scramble

Well Week 12 is here and I hope everyone has worked the wire and touched base with one of us on staff here at Hatty Waiver Wire Guru to make sure the lineup you have set is best. For any last minute advice take a look at Hatty's video's for the week and email if you have any last mminute needs.

There are times where you also need to step back and enjoy some football outside of fantasy. Some great games on today including the Titans vs. Jets, Patriots vs. the Dolphins, Eagles vs. Ravens, Panthers vs. Falcons, Giants vs. Cardinals and the Colts vs. Chargers. Regardless of the outcome of your fantasy game, take a moment to sit back and just enjoy some of the great games on today.

Week 12 Top 10 Running Backs

1 - Adrian Peterson - MIN @ JAC – Peterson has reclaimed his throne atop the NFL rushing hierarchy. Not even the Jaguars, who have given up over 90 yards to such fantasy studs as Kevin Smith (DET), Cedric Benson (CIN) and Mewelde Moore (PIT) can stop his return to form.
2 – Clinton Portis - WAS @ SEA – It's hard to bet against Portis in any week. Against a struggling Seahawks team with no real offense and a rushing defense ranked 21st in the league, look for Portis to put up strong numbers.

3 – Marshawn Lynch - BUF @ KC – Coming off his first 100 yard rushing effort of the year, Lynch lines up against the 31st ranked Chiefs rush defense. Add the fact that Edwards is using Lynch as his security blanket and Lynch is a must play this week.

4 – Matt Forte - CHI @ STL – Forte put up over a hundred yards from scrimmage against the 16th ranked Packers defense and the Titans 6th ranked defense. This week he goes against a Rams defense that ranks 29th against the run, and 30th overall. That means big numbers for the Bears running back who ranks fourth in yards from scrimmage.

5 – Steve Slaton - HOU @ CLE – Slaton is coming on strong in the second half of the season and rapidly adding himself to the list of fantasy studs from this years draft. Facing off against the 28th ranked Browns run defense will only add to it.

6 – LaDanian Tomlinson - IND @ SD – The Colts gave up over 150 yards to Slaton and the Houston offense last week. The Colts will give up an equally large number to Tomlinson and the Chargers this week on the ground.

7 – Justin Fargas - OAK @ DEN – Fargas ran for 109 yards from scrimmage in week one against the Broncos. Look for a repeat performance this week as the Broncos will score or punt quickly with and rookie Fulback lining up in the backfield and Cutler trying to throw it all over the field again his week.

8 – Willie Parker - CIN @ PIT – The Cincinnatti Bengels roll into Pittsburgh, fresh off their tie with Philadelphia? Parker will take more of the carries from Moore as Coach Tomlin gains confidence in Parker's shoulder. Parker is also likely to pick up more of the goal line carries this week.

9 – Warrick Dunn - TB @ DET – With Earnest Graham on the shelf and the Cadillac just out of the body shop, look for big things out of the veteran Dunn. The lions give up 5.1 yards per carry and over 170 yards per game on the ground. Dunn will put up the majority of those 170 yards for Tampa this week.

10 – Michael Turner - CAR @ ATL – Turner has become a beast on the ground in Atlanta, but faces a Panthers defense giving up just over 100 yards per game. Splitting carries with Norwood will eat into his value against a decent run defense.

Hatty's Afternoon Delight

We are back with another edition of the Hatty's Afternoon Delight. I apologize for the lack of updates but most everyone knows what happens between Sunday and Tuesday so I thought today would give me a good chance to recap the big stories from last week in addition to laying out the inside scoop for Week 12.

I hope everyone enjoyed a successful weekend and are either locked in or looking good for the playoffs at the least. If you are not, email either myself or Hatty and we will help you turn it around. A lot of news to touch on so let's get down to business:

Bucs Running Game
For those who watched the Waiver Wire Video you should know that Earnest Graham is done for the season. Warrick Dunn just because incredibly valuable so for those of you who held on to him over the past few weeks while he worked out his neck injury then you shall now reap your reward. Dunn is a great looking back for Week 12 with Detroit on the schedule. It is worth scooping up Clifton Smith and Noah Herron if you have the room as Dunn is injury prone and Cadillac looks to be inactive this week.

Brandon Jacobs
For anyone who doubted this guys beastliness then have fun eating those words. Jacobs is a monster but apparently there are a few slight injury concerns this week. Originally it was released that he may not play. He is supposed to practice on Thursday and keep reading as I will surely provide updates if something changes but it looks like he should be good to go for this week.

Brian Westbrook
Westbrook cannot seem to break the injury bug this year and is not looking great to play this weekend. His match up is not ideal as it is but with injury issues I would recommend looking for other options to plug in for Westbrook as there is a good chance he may miss this week.

The Browns to the Super Bowl!
Well maybe that is a bit over the top but the Browns have looked good on offense the last two weeks once Brady Quinn was inserted into the starting job. Kellen Winslow has finally provided some value but he will be questionable this week with a sprained shoulder.

Heath Miller
Miller returned to practice this week and is expected to play this week. Miller could be a risky option coming off of a hurt ankle but he is always a red zone threat.

Cowboys WR's
With Romo back in the lineup Sunday Night I am sure most fantasy owners were expecting something amazing to happen. It didn't but the Cowboys finally committed to the most solid aspect of their offense, Marion Barber. If Dallas continues to establish the run the that says great things for the Dallas WR's. With Miles Austin being out for at least two weeks look for TO, Williams and Crayton to all have opportunities for big plays as Barber's ability for running and catching balls out of the backfield will force defenses to put 8 in the box.

The Saints
Duece is facing suspension, Bush is still not back from injury and now Aaron Stecker is done. Enter Pierre Thomas as a viable 3rd option at RB until Reggie Bush gets back. Pierre had a nice game this past week so if Bush is out then Thomas will be a great play in Week 12.

Week 12 Top 10 Quarterbacks

Week 12 QB's
Peyton Manning (IND @ SD)- Peyton has been on fire lately and look for that to continue this week against the leagues worst passing defense (Chargers). He's thrown 7 TD's and zero interceptions in the last three weeks and is an absolute must start in Week 12.








Kurt Warner (ARZ vs. NYG)- Warner threw for 300+ yards for the fourth straight game this past week and remains one of the elite fantasy QB's this year. He may not reach the 300 yard mark this week against the Giants tough defense, but should still put up respectable numbers.






Jay Cutler (DEN vs. OAK)- Cutler didn't put up huge numbers last week, but still had a solid fantasy performance as he went 19-27 for 216 yards along w/ a TD. He has a favorable match up and should be closer to 300 yards this week.






Tony Romo (DAL vs. SF)- Romo was average in his return to the Dallas lineup, throwing for 198 yards and TD. The splint on his pinkie could have had an impact as he threw two picks which is something fantasy owners need to keep an eye on. With that said, Romo should fair much better at home in week 12 against the 49ers defense.






Drew Brees (NO vs. GB)- Brees didn't have his usual 300+ yard game in week 11 as he "only" threw for 266 yards and a TD against the Chiefs. This shouldn't be a major concern for fantasy owners as Brees will still put up yardage when he's not having his best day.







Tyler Thigpen (KC vs. BUF)- Thigpen threw two more touchdowns in week 11 to increase his total to 8 in his last four games (only 1 interception in that stretch). He really has become a good option to start as he's consistently throwing touchdowns and keeping his turnovers at a minimum.











Matt Cassel (NE @ MIA)- Cassel emerged with a breakout game last week in the overtime loss to the Jets. Cassel appears to have taken command of the Patriots offense, as he got it done in the air (400 yards, 3 TD's) and on the ground (62 yards). Do not expect another performance like that out of Cassel, but he looks to be a a viable fantasy option in week 12.









Aaron Rodgers (GB @ NO)- Rodgers has been inconsistent at times this year, however remains a good option when the matchup is right. The Saints have a below average pass defense that could mean big things for first year starter.








Ben Roethisberger (PIT vs. CIN)- Big Ben hasn't thrown a TD in his last three games but should put an end to that streak this week against a Bengals team he threw two against in week 7. He completed 31 of 41 for 308 yards last week which makes him a tempting start this wee












Brett Favre (NYJ @ TEN)- Favre has managed to go two straight games without an interception after a stretch of seven straight with one. It's not a great matchup for Favre against the Titans defense, but look for him to step up in this big AFC showdown.

Well Hatty beat me to the punch with our partner site recommendations but I am going to toss a few recommendations to those guys (and gals) on some of the content I love from their sites. Player Spotlight: Matt Forte

Forte burst into the NFL in the second round of the 2008 Rookie draft. When he was drafted it was as the heir apparent to the draft bust Cedric Benson, but due to Benson’s behavioral issues Forte found himself firmly planted in the starting role, and has never looked back.

Forte went virtually un-noticed on most fantasy draft boards due to the questions about Kyle Orton’s abilities at quarterback. Forte came out with a vengeance in week one as his dual threat possibility emerged. His value has continued to increase as he as developed consistency to go with his big numbers, especially in point by reception leagues.

Forte has emerged as a top 5 back in point by reception leagues, 19.4 points per week, but is one of only 3 in the top 5 in average points to have played every game. Even in yardage only leagues, Forte is ranked 8th, 13.7 points per week, one of only 6 players in the top 10 to have played in every game this year.

The lone question mark is how will Forte hold up as the season wears on? At Tulane he played 12 games last season in 12 weeks. So this question may not be answered until week 14, when he plays his 13th game this year. Don’t be too concerned about the rookie wall with Forte, though. His running style and his use out of the backfield as a receiver allows him to not take the big hit that wears down younger backs. The mix of that and use of Kevin Jones and Garrett Wolfe to spell Forte, Forte has only 80% of the carries for the Bears, bodes well for Forte owners down the stretch.

Forte has a favorable schedule the rest of the way. His only challenge is in week 13 against the stingy Vikings run defense. The remainder of his schedule is the 28th ranked Packers and the 30th Ranked Rams. His fantasy playoff schedule is also very favorable as he faces off against the 20th ranked Jaguars, 18th ranked Saints and again playing the 28th ranked Packers. These match-ups make Forte a must start the rest of the way.

Owners need to scoop up Ladell Betts and if you have room grab Shaun Alexander as well because no one knows how serious an injury Portis has. In addition, Betts is still hobbled and so there may be a RB by committee which means if you have better options you should go with them. Keep checking the Afternoon Delight each day as well will continue to monitor this story and provide more definitive details as we get them.

Chris Chambers
Chambers is not listed on this weeks injury report however I would be cautious here as the Bolts are unlikely to rush Chambers with Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd playing well. Either way Chambers is a great option is he is 100% healthy.

Reggie Bush
Bush is still questionable for this weekend and owners should prepare that even if he does play the chances of him being the primary back are minimal. With Duece playing well the Saints will not rush their franchise back before he is 100% healthy. Keep monitoring this story with us as we will keep this on the top of the priority list along with the Portis situation.

Jonathan Stewart
Stewart was not listed on the injury report which is good news for owners. The bad news is that Williams has really stepped up while Stewart has been down and may have grabbed the starting role back as long as he is being productive. Stewart is a great back for dynasty owners so if by chance someone let him go, now would be the ideal time to pick him up.

Steve Slaton
Slaton who emerged as a huge rookie producer is being monitored on his reps. Chances are that Slaton will have some average weeks but I would be cautious in putting too much of your fantasy playoffs hopes on Slaton. If you are not in a dynasty league now would be an ideal time to try and move Slaton. With Ryan Moats and Ahman Green healthy, Slaton should return to being primarily a 3rd down back.

Frank Gore
Gore revealed that he had a concussion in Monday Nights game which means he could be out this week. Most backs are limited or held out all together the week following a concussion due to the liability teams face these days. Gore reported as still having headaches. If Gore is your breadwinner then I would nab Deshaun Foster as a potential fill in this week but hopefully there is a better option on your bench or the waiver wire.

BGE and the Pats
Sammy Morris appears that he will be inactive for Week 11 so BGE will get the start tonight against the Jets. As we mentioned in the Player Spotlight article this week (http://www.hattywaiverwireguru.com/2008/11/player-spotlight-benjarvus-green-ellis.html) this weeks match up is not ideal but if the injury big has hit you then BGE makes for a solid play. Chances are he will see all goal line carries and split time out of the backfield with Kevin Faulk everywhere else.

Hatty's Afternoon Delight

We are back for another round of Hatty's Afternoon Delight. Sorry for the day off yesterday but sometimes I get tied up and cannot get to it but I will do my best to keep those occurrences to a minimum. A lot of good news flowing around the league. I will be recapping some things that happened yesterday that most everyone knows about now in this session as well.

Cadillac "Coup De Ville" Williams
It looks as thought the Bucs have activated Williams and intend on him seeing action as soon as this week. The release of Michael Bennett indicates that Williams at the least will be the 3rd option out of the backfield. With current injuries to Graham and Dunn makes Williams worth taking a shot on for the second half of the season. Williams was a premier back in his prime and Gruden loves to use RB by committee so as long as Graham and Dunn are dinged up expect Cadillac to get some looks.

Matt Hasslebeck
Hassy is back for Week 11 after missing five weeks. Owners of any Seattle receiver and Julius Jones have to be happy to hear this as it has to improve the terrible Seattle offense to some degree. Hasslebeck seemed to take his time getting back so hopefully he will not have any lingering effects other than rust. If you have better options for Week 11 hold off on throwing Hassy back into the lineup until we see if he is the Hasselbeck we all remember.

Action Jackson
Or perhaps he should be call inactive Jackson after this season. Steven Jackson owners will be glad to hear that he made it back to practice on Wednesday which is the first sign of life for the first rounder. The Rams are a different offense when Jackson is in the game which is good news for Donnie Avery and Torry Holt owners but I would not bank on Jackson making it to the end of the year without more time on the injury report. If you are not in a dynasty league and have the ability to move Jackson for a good RB on a mid tiered team fighting for the playoffs, now is the time to do it. You can likely get a RB and WR for Jackson.

BGE and the Pats
BGE (for those unsure of who this is please check the player spotlight from Tuesday) looks to continue to start against the Jets on Thursday night with Sammy Morris being listed as questionable. I expect that as long as BGE continues at his current pace that the Pats will be in no rush to bring him back. Either way he has been the most effective goal line back for the Pats and should continue to see looks even when Morris returns.

Josh Morgan
Another featured player on the site this year will be our for Week 11. It seems every time Morgan has a good game he misses the following week. Either way Morgan is a tier 3 or 4 receiver at best and, with bye weeks out of the way, should only be used in case an injury hurts you later in the season.

Dynasty League Update
For those who are in dynasty leagues and are looking to next year Rotoworld had a nice blurb on Derrick Ward's value for the future. He is worth stashing on your bench after the year he has had, considering some team will be sure to have him on their roster for next year if the Giants decide to let him go.

Da Broncos
Don't take offense Bears fans! In an effort to provide some relief for their absolutely obliterated running game the Broncos have brought back Tatum Bell who could start seeing carries this week. Payton Hillis is still listed as the starter but bell had some great years in Denver so if you have been playing the Broncos RB train this year, nab Bell now as he knows the offense and has the motivation to prove he is still a capable. back.

Week 11 Top 10 Quarterbacks

1) Kurt Warner (ARZ @ SEA)- What is there not to like about Warner in week 11? He's had three straight 300+ yard games and thrown 7 touchdowns during that stretch. He's also up against the terrible Seattle defense that is giving up the second most passing yards per game (252).





2) Jay Cutler (DEN @ ATL)- I mentioned last week that it appeared Cutler was starting to heat up again, and boy was I right. He threw for a career high 447 yards last week and should continue to put up great numbers as the Broncos have virtually no running game left. He also has an decent match up against a below average Falcons passing defense.






3) Drew Brees (NO @ KC)- Despite three interceptions, Brees threw for 422 yards and 2 TD's last week and has favorable match up versus the Chiefs in week 11. The turnovers last week are a concern, however you can count on him to attempt 40 passes and get quality yardage each week.








4) Peyton Manning (IND vs. HOU)- Manning had another solid outing last week against the tough Steelers defense and I expect that to continue this week against the Texans. He's not reaching that 300 yard mark that we'd like to see, but he's throwing TD's consistently which makes up for it.







5) Matt Ryan (ATL vs. DEN)- The rookie continues to impress week after week. He's thrown 2 touchdowns in each of his last 3 games and has a great match up against a Broncos defense that have only 3 interceptions on the year.










6) Donovan McNabb (PHI @ CIN)- McNabb only threw for 194 yards last week, but did manage a respectable 3 TD's in the loss to NFC East rival Giants. Look for McNabb to "rebound" this week against a Bengals defense that lacks interceptions (5 on the year) and sacks (second to last in the league w/ only 9).






7) Philip Rivers (SD @ PIT)- Rivers was his usual self last week throwing for 316 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Chiefs. The Steelers are not the greatest match up for a QB, but Rivers is leading the league in passing TD's w/ 21 and is a must start unless you have a better option this week.





8) Jeff Garcia (TB vs. MIN)- Garcia has been asked to pass more in recent weeks and looked good in his last start (week 9 @ KC) as he threw for 339 yards. Coming off a bye week and facing an average Vikings pass defense should be an encouraging factor for Garcia owners.





9) Tyler Thigpen (KC vs. NO)- Amazingly Thigpen has been decent since regaining the starting job last month. Since then he's thrown 6 touchdowns, 710 yards, and zero interceptions in those three games. He makes the cut for week 11 after a 3 TD performance last week and a great match against a bad Saints pass defense.





10) Jake Delhomme (CAR vs. DET)- I don't think anyone really knows what happened to Delhomme last week. Honestly after that terrible performance he shouldn't be on this list. Two things get him on this list. He's been good at home this year (8 TD's to 2 INT's) and faces one of the leagues worst defenses (Detroit). The Lions have a league worst 2 interceptions this year, which should help Jake out a bit this week.

Week 11 Top 10 Running Backs

1 - Brian Westbrook -PHI @ CIN – Westbrook is a must start anytime he is healthy, but this week against the Bengals who give up over 130 rushing yards per game. Combine this with his receiving yards and he is set up to bounce back from last week’s performance to be a stud start this week.

2 - Frank Gore - STL @ SF - Gore and the 49ers line up against the Rams defense that gave up 149 yards and 3 touchdowns to Thomas Jones last week. Look for more of the same from Gore, especially considering that San Francisco has quarterback problems. Look for Gore to put up numbers similar to Jones did last week.

3 - Matt Forte - CHI @ GB – Forte lined up against the Titans 8th ranked defense last week and still put up solid rushing numbers and added good receiving numbers and a touchdown. This week against a Packers team that gave up over 200 yards of offense to Adrian Peterson last week, expect even larger numbers from Forte.





4 – DeAngelo Williams - DET @ CAR – Okay, this was the easy one, the only hard part was moving him down to fourth. He’s running against the Lions and coming off a season high 140-yard effort against the equally weak Raiders defense last week.

5 - Ronnie Brown - OAK @ MIA – Ronnie Brown has been the surprise of the season this year. Even though he had an off week last week, giving the bulk of the yards to Ricky Williams, keep in mind that half of Williams yards came on one play last year, and Brown is starting against the Raiders defense that gave up 140yards to DeAngelo last week.



6 - Michael Turner - DEN @ ATL – Turner has emerged as the beast he was advertised to be in the off-season. Against a Broncos team without a running back, that will be throwing early and often, that leaves a lot of time on the clock for Turner to rack up yardage.





7 - Marshawn Lynch - CLE @ BUF – Lynch has struggled the last several weeks. Look for him and the Bills running attack to get back on track against the hapless Browns defense. They gave up almost a hundred yards rushing to a rookie in his first start, a Fullback, and an injured second year player last week. That and the need Buffalo has to get its running game going for a playoff run nets Lynch a big week this week.


8 - Steve Slaton - HOU @ IND – Slaton has emerged as one of the premier three rookie running backs from this year’s class. Facing the Colts run defense will net him a solid week, especially if Rosenfels performs as poorly as last week. With more quarterback play like that, look for Slaton to shoulder the load.





9 - Deuce McAllister - NO @ KC – The Chiefs couldn't stop a college running attack, so look for big numbers out of Deuce this week.






10 – Tim Hightower - ARI @ SEA – Hightower has snatched the starting job away from an oft-injured Edgerrin James, and has emerged as a solid fantasy player in the process. The Seahawks have no passing attack, even with Matt Hasselbeck they still have no relevant wide receiver options. Again this gives Arizona more time of possession and once they establish their large lead, Hightower will rack up yards in mop up time.

Player Spotlight: Benjarvus Green Ellis

Benjarvus Green Ellis came into Week 10 of the NFL season with few people really knowing his name or his potential. After Sunday, everyone knows both. Ben Green Ellis, whom I will refer to as BGE (pronounce it Biggie), had the best game of his short career with 26 carries for 106 yards and a TeeDer this past weekend against a middle of the road Buffalo Bills run defense. This was the first game in which BGE had been given the majority of the work and he showed what he has the ability to do.

After being a standout back at Mississippi with back to back 1000 yard seasons, including being named to the All SEC team, BGE was a virtual unknown. Leave it to Bill Bellichick to find a diamond in the rough in BGE. With the season ending injury to Laurence Maroney followed by injuries to Sammy Morris and Lamont Jordan, BGE was left to share the load with Kevin Faulk. BGE has scored a TeeDer in 4 consecutive weeks and consistently posts a strong YPC which has shown that BGE has the ability to be a strong fantasy back over the next few weeks.

It seems to some that Maroney’s time in New England is limited. Since taking over the starting job he has been invisible in their offense and hurt somewhat frequently. For dynasty owners, BGE is worth targeting right now. With dispensable RB’s such as Morris, Jordan and Faulk as the only competition you can expect the Pats to look to lock him up as the future back in New England. If they don’t, you can surely expect that other teams around the league won’t allow him to go without a job long.

For those who were quick on the draw to grab BGE look to play him this week against the Jets if you need a filler. The Jets run defense ranks fifth in the league but their pass defense is not so good. And with the gun slinging Mississippi lad at the helm any game can become a shootout. Expect for the Pats pass game to open up the run game enough for BGE to have a decent week.


If he continues at his current pace there is a good chance BGE will continue to see looks with Morris and Jordan less than 100%.

"Buyer Beware"
- BGE has potential to be a nice dynasty back but this week's matchup is not ideal unless you have some holes at RB!

Hatty's Afternoon Delight

Well Week 11 has almost come and gone with the exception of what is sure to be a riveting game between Cardinals and 49ers tonight. I am back with our daily session of what is going on around the league and how that impacts you and your lineup. There were a lot of surprises this week like Ryan Torain going down for the year and Jamaal Charles blowing his chance to steal some carries from LJ over a sore ankle. There were also some big surprises for all you Maurice Jones Drew and Willis McGahee owners. Let's get down to business here:

Ravens RB Situation
At this point I am not even sure if the coach knows who is going to play out of this backfield. It is working for them so don't expect much to change here. This RB by tri-committee is really frustrating owners. Willis Mcgahee was the beneficiary this week and my recommendation to fantasy owners is to stay away from this situation. Between McGahee, McClain and Rice you never seem to be sure who will get the ball. As long as McGahee is healthy I assume he would see the bulk of carries.

Clinton Portis
It looks like Portis has an injury concern for Week 11 already. Jim Zorn says that he is 50-50 to play this week but I would not be too concerned if I owned him in a league. Portis has been in Washington going on his fifth year this season and despite the 2006 year where he went down for 8 game he has yet to miss a game. How many times has he shown up on an injury report...about 5000. Until they say he is out, expect Portis to play. Especially in a tight NFC East and NFC Wild Card race the Redskins are in.

Earnest Graham
With the bye week past is appears that Graham's injury is not that serious. That is a good thing for Bucs fans since Warrick Dunn is questionable and they are looking to bring Cadillac Williams back in the mix as well. If you are in a deeper league it may be worth stashing Williams but as long as Graham is healthy he will be the featured back. If Dunn struggles to come back from injury expect Williams to potentially see some carries on 3rd down as well as for different looks in a similar way that Dunn was used.


FWP and Mewelde Moore
I can tell you now that no owner has been more pleased with the injury situation to FWP. Mewelde Moore has filled in amazingly for Parker in the weeks that he has missed. Apparently Parker's injury is not a serious as some reports lent the impression that there was an injury to his labrum in the shoulder. Parker says this is false and that he expects to suit up for Week 11. If history has told you anything do no drop Mewelde Moore. If Pittsburgh continues to fight for the playoffs either Parker will get hurt, they will rest Parker once they clinch or Parker will not be as effective which means Moore will continue to get the chance to shine.

Derrick Mason
He left the game with a dislocated shoulder. Not sure of the full severity but we will keep you updated as the week progresses.

Kansas City Chiefs Watch List

Jamal Charles
The third round pick in this years draft for the Chiefs, has moved onto the waiver wire radar with the suspension of Larry Johnson. Now with the injury to Kolby Smith and Johnson still possibly facing further disciplinary action from the NFL in the off season, Charles has become a very viable low level keeper and a starter in leagues that allow some combination of three running backs.





Tyler Thigpen
The once third string quarterback, personifies the phrase “you’re one play away”. His performance in the last two weeks has moved into the ranks of fantasy back ups. He is not going to put up big time numbers, but he has shown that he is a good game manager, throwing for three touchdowns and no interceptions since returning as the starter in week 8. Add him if you have a health concern with your current starter.

Larry Johnson

May become the next Priest Holmes for keeper and dynasty owners. Those of you that rode Holmes to championships and then were burned by his rumored returns from injury still have that gaping hole in your line-up to remind you. Larry Johnson may be headed down the same path, but with his behavior. If you can find a trading partner, the time has come to try and unload Johnson, or risk him becoming the next Priest or Shaun Alexander.

Mark Bradley

Released by the Bears in week 4, has found a productive home in Kansas City. Putting up respectable numbers in his first two starts Kansas City has moved him onto a lot of owners radar’s. It seems that Herm Edwards is trying to come up with ways to get the former 2d round pick involved in the offense, he threw for a 37 yard touchdown to Thigpen last week. While not a player to displace a current starter on your roster, he is worth keeping an eye on for the next couple of weeks.

Hatty's Afternoon Delight

Most of the big news I posted earlier today but much of it I will recap in today's session of Afternoon Delight. Some other big news from around the league and things get shaken up right before a huge weekend for fantasy owners.

Injuries, Injuries, Injuries
Ryan Torain is officially lost for the rest of season. Too bad as everyone got to see how great he could be for a whole quarter and a half. get Payton Hillis until you hear of Denver signing someone else. I think Jim Brown is out there and may be the only free agent back on the planet at this point.

Willie Parker is out for Week 10. Something has occurred with his shoulder unexpectedly but once again FWP is out. Get Mewelde Moore in your lineups if you need a filler.

NEW ADDITION
I realize this does not have the major impact most posts do but the Redskins signed Deangelo Hall today after the Raiders cut him (I am sure he was the problem in Oakland?). This gives the Redskins DST a new threat with a shut down back with Pro Bowl ability joining an already stellar defense. I would not recommend them this week but they could be a nice second defense to pickup in case the match up makes sense.

Marques Colston
Apparently Colston could be relegated as a third option. Good thing New Orleans lines up with 9 receivers at all times. Despite this report do not be afraid to play Colston this weekend.

Josh Morgan
It appears that Morgan has taken over the starting spot from Bryant Johnson at split end. Last time he was given a chance he had 60 yards and a Teeder. If you need a bye week filler Morgan could be worth a shot against Arizona and a big Monday Night game.

Lendale White/Chris Johnson
According to a report from a local Nashville Paper Chris Johnson's touches could go up. Keep an eye on this trend as it would decrease Lendale's White's value. I would be hesitant to mess with a good thing if I were Jeff Fisher as the increased workload could lead to injury.

Commissioner's Preperation for Next Year (Part II)

This continuation will help you understand ways to solicit ideas from your league as well as some information that you may want to consider getting out ot your league in these latter stages of the season.

You should consider creating a message board topic that solicits ideas from your owners, Creating polls on your website, or sending each owner a personalized email soliciting ideas. Take the responses that you get from the owners now as well as those that you have received or observed throughout the year and compile them into emails to the league. Don’t be afraid to ask for suggestions from you league on how to address issues. Letting them suggest the solutions will make them feel more involved in the league and create better owner retention. Remember that you are not going to be able to accommodate every owner’s wish.

If all is well with your league or you are already addressing your owners concerns, the next topic you need to address is your off-season timeline. It may seem a little early, but laying it out now will avoid confusion later. If your league is a dynasty league this is an easy email, you merely solicit prospective dates for your upcoming draft. Keeper leagues have a little more to deal with.

Keeper league timelines involve trimming your roster down from it’s in-season level. While these cut dates are typically not until later on in the year, keep the following things in mind. Don’t look to snap your league down to keeper level in one cut. Your owners will appreciate the flexibility an NFL type gradual reduction to the roster size gives them. Spreading these dates out over the summer or the year keeps your owners involved during the off-season and makes the early part of the year more active. Make sure you communicate the dates for each cut well in advance.

Remember that your roster cuts are probably going to be taking place during a time frame that a lot of your owners will be taking vacations and trips.

Because your owners may not be at home when making the roster cuts are made, provide them with multiple options of how to submit their cut list. Allow them to submit conditional cut lists, “I have a trade out for Player A, if I that trade clears in time cut Player B, if not cut Player C”. Let the league have your cell phone number and submit their cuts via text message. I would hazard against taking cuts over the phone by voice, as it does not create a paper trail, if a dispute arises.

Another Key Player Update

Normally I would not have so many random post in one day but the last 24 hours have caused some big changes for this weekend.

It looks like Fast Willie Parker is OUT for this Sunday's game against Indy. This came out of no where for me personally after he looked good last Monday against the Redskins. It is apparently his shoulder this time and the injury did not really surface until the following day.

Mewelde Moore may have been dropped in many leagues after FWP looked good on Monday. Parker is not expected to be out long but Moore make for an awesome Bye week filler at the least. I would also recommend holding onto him since FWP continues to prove he is a little soft.
