Hatty's Afternoon Delight

Welcome back for yet another daily dose of Hatty's Afternoon Delight. A lot of big news today as teams get their final preps in for this weekend's games. This is a pivotal weekend for most fantasy owners as it begins the home stretch to the playoffs and for everyone sitting around .500 this is a must win week. We want to make sure you have the most up to the minute information so here are some news and notes of interest:

Pittsburgh's RB Scenario
This is not what owners of FWP and Mewelde Moore will want to hear but Parker looks like he will be playing but have some limitations which equates to RB by committee. I think this fares well for the Mewelde Moore owners because it is obvious that FWP still isn't 100%. Either is a good 3rd option but don't hang your Week 9 strategy on either Moore or Parker.

Santana Moss
Moss is expected to be a game time decision but knowing moss and my Redskins I would be shocked if he is not in the lineup. Moss loves the big stage and there is none bigger than MNF in that nations capital on the eve of a presidential election. If Moss does play expect him to have a big game with Polamalu a potential scratch as well. My guess is both teams are using the injury report to confuse the others game plan as this is a huge game for both clubs.

Hard Hittin'
Jason Witten looks as though he could miss this Sunday's game. I personally think he will play because he is a tough one but he has missed 3 day s of practice. Keep a close eye on this one but you may want to snag a backup TE in case he is a last minute scratch.

Tampa Bay Running Game
It appears as though Dunn will be a scratch this week so Earnest Graham is a very strong play. Continue to monitor Dunn's progress because if his injury is worse than expected there have been reports of a Cadillac Williams looking good in some workouts down in Tampa who could fill Dunn's role nicely.

Donnie Avery
Not convinced of Donnie Avery yet. Check out this quote from Torry Holt: Asked Friday if he's upset with his diminished role in St. Louis' offense, Torry Holt said "Absolutely."
"I’m surprised," Holt said. "I guess they feel that Donnie (Avery) obviously has been stepping up and making some huge plays, and they want to continue to get him the football." (Rotoworld.com)
If Avery is in your league waiver wire...GET HIM NOW!

Steven Jackson
Jackson was limited in practice and is still a GTD. I am putting money on Jackson playing this week but I said that last week only to be disappointed. Check our Sunday Scramble for the last minute news on Jackson.

Willis McGahee
Is listed as questionable....SHOCKER! McGahee has more injury updates than yards this year. He will play on Sunday though it appears.

A lot of big things happening today. If the news throws off your Week 9 Game plan then feel free to email us your dilemma and we will be glad to help. We are all about producing wins for our readers and want to help you take over your league.

Also, I have started a Sunday Morning Scramble for everyone monitoring player news to set their optimal lineups. I will do my best to get the most accurate information I can find and post it by Noon on Sunday to give you the most up to the minute start/sit advice.

"Crap my team loses as much as LJ slaps people"

Here is the weekly installment for the teams who have come close to hitting rock bottom and need to revamp your team. Here is a team you can make out players who you will most likely find on your waiver wires.

QB- Chad Pennington: Pennington is no one's ideal QB but with the the rash of injuries at this position combined with Chad's ability to be solid this year he certainly makes for a good option. Add to that mix the fact that the Dolphins are playing Denver this week who ranks 27th against the pass and 30th against the run means the Dolphins offense should be able to move the football well meaning Pennington is in good shape to have a strong week.

RB- Leon Washington: Washington exploded this past week including a 60 yard touchdown run which will lead to him seeing more opportunities this week. Buffalo is a middle tiered defense and expect Manginni to use multiple options to open up the run game. Washington proved he knows how to find pay dirt and with Thomas Jones always susceptible to injury you could see Washington' value jump this week.

RB- Kolby Smith: With LJ busy beating up all of Kansas City this has put Smith in a prime position to take over and have some good weeks for KC. Of course the Chiefs offensive situation is not ideal but with a younger more energetic Smith you should see a renewed focus on the run in order to take the pressure off Thigpen.

WR- Shaun McDonald: McDonald is likely low on your waiver wire but new QB Orlovsky targeted him quite a few times this past week. McDonald is a good option at WR and with teams surely focusing their best defensive players on Calvin Johnson it will leave McDonald open to make some nice gains.

WR- Nate Washington: With Santonio Holmes being eligible for Week 9 you can be sure Washington was dropped in many leagues. Holmes will surely see some form of time missed once the NFl rules on his case and therefore makes Washington a good option.

TE: Mercedes Lewis: Lewis will not get you major numbers each week but what he has become is a primary red zone target who can make the grab in the end zone. With Cincinnati on the schedule this week he is a strong option at TE.

K- Jason Elam: I have noticed him on a lot of waiver wires and he is one of the best kickers this season and most reliable throughout his career. With Oakland on the schedule this week hosting a good enough defense to cause red zone issues, Elam is a great play this week.

DEF: Atlanta: Atlanta's defense is not great but Oakland's offense is much worse. If you need a replacement due to bye week Atlanta is worth giving a look this week.

Hatty's Afternoon Delight

Back for another round and there are some interesting things going on in the world of Fantasy Football today. Nothing major has occured but some updates and a few new pieces here and there and I will do my best to put my fantasy spin on the news:

Darren "Two-Toe" McFadden
As if this season could not get much worse for the high profile rookie, McFadden is likely out for Week 9 with the first case of double turf toe I can ever remember. Not sure what is going on in Oakland or with McFadden to pull off such a rare injury but with Fargas healthy and the Raiders season already in the dumps don't expect McFadden to be rushed back.

A new sheriff in Denver?
It appears that Michael Pittman had a full practice on Wednesday and expects to be ready for Week 9. Pittman has some broke ribs reports say so if you have been playing the Pittman/Young carousel this year I would recommend dropping Selvin Young and getting Ryan Torain on your team now. He is the future of the Denver running game and whether he takes that role this year or next it is best to go ahead and grab him, especially if you are in a dynasty league.

Warrick Dunn
Dunn is likely out for Week 9 giving Earnest Graham owners a big smile with the Chiefs on the schedule next. Dunn had a pinched nerve in his neck that may turn out to be more serious than originally thought. Reports out of Tampa hint at Dunn maybe being in jeopardy for the year as well. FANTASY ALERT: Cadillac Williams has been working out again and said to look strong. Depending on what occurs with Dunn, Williams could be a hot waiver wire option in the next few weeks.

FWP
Willie Parker is back on the practice field and apparently missing the holes in the ground this time around. He looks to be ready for Week 9 and the pivotal Monday Night match up against the Redskins. For those owners who have benefited from Mewelde Moore's play in Pittsburgh don't be so quick to drop him if you have the space on your roster. If one thing is true, FWP has proven to be injury prone so Moore's role as a starter may come back around.

LJ
LJ will be out for Week 9 and perhaps longer depending on the ruling of the NFL. If a suspension comes down it looks to be 4 games but could be longer depending on how Goodell handles the situation.

That is all for today's Afternoon Delight. Feel free to email me with any questions revolving around player news, injuries, lineups, trades and waiver wire advice.

Week 9 Top 10 RB's

As we wrap up the bye weeks, and some of the stronger running backs are back from injuries, the top running backs start to become less about the match-up and more about the team they’re on and who they are. This week you can feel secure if you have one of the elite runners. If you’ve built your backfield on the waiver wire, you could be in trouble starting this week.

1 – Brian Westbrook
, PHI @ SEA – Westbrook was an injury concern last week, but all those concerns have been laid to rest by his stellar performance last week. Look for him to put up large numbers again this week as he faces off against a Seattle team with virtually no offense without Matt Hasselbeck. This translates into a large time of possession for the Eagles and a lot of touches for their feature back.

2 – Matt Forte
, CHI vs. DET – Forte is another of the dual threat running backs and this week he lines up against the Lions 31st ranked run defense. While Forte has not put up stellar rushing numbers this year, his combined yards and touchdowns makes him a must start this week.

3 – Adrian Peterson – MIN vs. HOU – Look for Peterson to get the ball early and often in Minnesota’s quest to control the tempo. The Texans are 21st against the run and face off against one of league’s best pure runner’s in Peterson. Minnesota may be forced to minimize the run late if Houston puts up quick scores with Johnson and Walter.

4 – Michael Turner – ATL @ OAK – Turner is lining up against a Raider team that is 26th against the run, which means big numbers for the Atlanta running attack. The only thing keeping Turner from being ranked higher is Jerious Norwood. The question is not only how many carries does Turner get in the rotation, but in what situations.

5 – Steven Jackson – STL vs. ARI – The only question in this one is Jackson’s health. It appears that the Rams are getting back on track in their passing game with Avery stretching the field vertically. This will roll the Safeties out of the box to prevent the big one, and give Jackson some room to run.

6 – Justin Fargas – OAK vs. ATL – As Jamarcus Russell continues to struggle, look for the Raiders to ride Fargas into the ground. Against the 23rd ranked Falcons, Fargas will get touches early in the game as the Raiders try to break down the defense for Russell and the aerial attack.

7 – Ronnie Brown – MIA @CLE –Brown, once written off by fantasy owners has rebounded from his injuries to become one of the elite backs again this year. Look for the trend of solid weeks to continue against the Browns, who are only better than the Lions and Chiefs against the run.

8 – Maurice Jones-Drew – JAC @ CIN – Jones-Drew has now firmly established himself as the go to back in Jacksonville. The “bowling ball” will roll right over a Bengal’s team that, without Carson Palmer, has trouble sustaining drive that keep their 27th ranked run defense off the field.

9 – Earnest Graham – TBB @ KCC – Graham is facing a pathetic Chief's run defense that gave up 100-yard days to both Tennessee backs two weeks ago. Graham could move up the list if Dunn’s health comes into question again this week.

10 – Marion Barber – DAL @ NYG – Dallas may go to a quarterback by committee system this week inserting Brooks Bollinger in some situations. Barber will be the only beneficiary of this set up as both quarterbacks will rely heavily on the running game and Barber as a check down receiver.

Hatty's Afternoon Delight

It is time for our daily installment of Hatty's Afternoon Delight and there are some twists and turns out there today so pay attention. I will be short and sweet today but this is all news worth bringing up:

He's Baaaaccckkkk!
Joseph Addai looks to be returning to the lineup this week and not a moment too soon with the Colts on the verge of disappearing after their Monday night loss to the Titans. Not sure how much benefit Addai can really be as the Colts just look incapable of running the ball.

Bossman Speaketh!
Jerry Jones made it public that he is backing Brad Johnson to be the teams starter over Brooks Bollinger. I am sure most of you like myself never expected for Bollinger to really get the nod but this is all I need to know there is no chance.

Rookie Woes
Darren McFadden looks to be hurting once again with his turf toe injury now kept company by the new boot on his other foot. McFadden was one of those rookies everyone was big on, including me, only to not be able to really do much outside of a nice Week 2 performance. McFadden would only be worth owning at this point in a dynasty league.

Santana Moss
Moss appears though he will play despite mixed signals between Vinny Cerato and Jim Zorn is looks like Moss will be in the lineup for prime time. Is it me or are there two more dominating recievers in football this year than Steve Smith and Santana Moss?

Denver's Running Game
It appears that Michael Pittman has some broken ribs and with Selving Young and Andre Hall already hobbling it is setting up nicely for rookie Ryan Torain to return this week and potentially be a steal. For dynasty league, and in my opinion any league, you need to scoop up Torain now as Shanahan and Cutler love him and he has been compared to Terrell Davis. He could be a big second half player and a playoff changer!

That is all for today. Please email me with any suggestions, thoughts, lineups, trades, waiver wire or overall advice you need. We keep racking up the wins so let us help you make the playoffs and win your league!

How can you get in and win your playoffs!

Based on a few emails from our loyal readers I wanted to take a minute to focus on the impending playoffs for fantasy owners and provide some insight into things that you want to look out and prepare for as an owner. Whether your are 8-0 and looking set for the playoffs or hovering around the .500 mark and trying to figure out how to get those few extra wins that mean the playoffs.

Here are some thoughts depending on where you currently sit in your league:

If you are undefeated or dominating your league in general you need to start planning for the playoffs now. It rings true almost every year that the team who dominates the regular season loses in their playoffs due to teams who are doing well and lock up their playoff position early rest their key players as to avoid injury risk. Right now standings are pretty even so the only players that come off as early concerns in this area are teams who own Chris Johnson or Lendale White seeing as the Titans have a 4 game lead and without a major breakdown should clinch their playoff spot earlier than most. Also Cardinals players could creep onto that list in the next week or two if they get hot since no one else in the NFC West seems eager to win games this year.

If you are in the middle of your league you probably fall in line with 80% of fantasy owners who are either in a playoff spot right now or within a game of it. If you have solid players then I would not worry too much and trust in your studs to get you into the playoffs and then take over. More times than not it seem that the team that wins it all is the team who finishes the regular season somewhere between 3rd and 6th. The key to you making it into the playoffs is to manage your waiver wire and look for key trade opportunities with players who have underperformed. Hatty mentioned some of these players in his trade target video last week (Peyton Manning was a great example who had a good week this past week) so go and take a look. The big thing here is to work the wire as there is undoubtedly going to be some injuries over the next 2-3 weeks that allow for that 3rd tier RB or WR to make a name for himself. He could be the difference maker in your fantasy football super bowl.

If you are a bottom feeder this season then not all is lost. In most competitive leagues right now the difference in first and last place (assuming you didn't let someone in your league who thought football was the soccer version) is probably around 3-4 games. With 4 or 5 weeks left you cannot win the regular season so quit focusing on the guy at the top. Focus in on that last playoff spot because chances are you are only a game to three games out of it. Find your weak spots and get aggressive with trading and waiver wire pickups. There have no doubt been some disappointments on your team and you need to shake things up. Take that high profile player who has laid an egg for you this year and try to move him for players like Donnie Avery. If you have one stud player try to trade him to a team and get 2-3 serviceable players to give your team some consistency. If your whole team hinges on LT but you are 1-7 then it is time to move Lt and get a good RB and WR in the deal to help your team have a chance. You have to work your waiver wire even if it means a revolving door of players week to week based on match ups.

The key point here is that no matte where you are in your league it is still any one's game but now is the time to make something happen. Please feel free to email any of our staff with recommendations, trade offers, lineup changes and team analysis if you want to. We are here to help and get your team into the playoffs but more importantly help you win that title!

Hatty's Afternoon Delight

Well a lot has occurred in the past 24 hours including a change of the guard it appears in the AFC South with the Titans proving they are the real deal. Here is our daily post of Hatty's Afternoon Delight:

Don't Call it a Comeback!
Out of no where today it appears there is a new Quarterback on the verge on making a comeback into the league with Daunte Culpepper working out for the Lions and reportedly turning down the Chiefs due to his interest in the Lions job. I am not sure at this point if he is an insurance option for Dan Orlovsky or if the front office noticed what a lot of us did this past Sunday in regards to Orlovsky looking like he has what it takes to get the Lions to the win column. For those in dynasty and deep leagues with some spots on your bench open monitor this situation as Culpepper could turn out to be a decent option in a few weeks if he makes it back. Especially with the attrition of QB's this season we may see Troy Aikman come out of the booth soon.

Witten Hitten!
It looks like the MRI on Jason Wittens ribs has revealed that some are broken. Witten being the hard nosed player that he is seems confident he will play and I am not sure if there is anyone in Dallas big enough to stand in his way. Fantasy owners keep close tabs on this situation as it sounds eerily similar to what kept Brian Westbrook out for the Eagles for a few weeks.

Need a QB?
I mentioned this yesterday and it became official not too long after but Shaun Hill is in as the starting QB for the 49ers. Vernon Davis is apologizing and it appears that Mike Singletary has taken control of the team. Hill looked strong in the second half on Sunday and anyone who is contemplating whether to start Fitzpatrick or Pennington this week should take a chance on this guy as he has some weapons around him.

Santonio not Suspended..yet!
Mike Tomlin announced that Santonio Holmes will play in the week 9 Monday Night game for the Steelers. With the suspension for the drug charges sure to be drawn out as much as possible if not into next season Holmes looks to be a solid option at WR this week. With the nice play by Nate Washington last week don't be surprised to see Santonio's production take a slight hit however.

Hasslecrap!
It looks as though Matt Hasselbeck, who has been a major disappointment this season, will likely miss the week 9 game for the Seahawks adding to yet another QB situation. For those who have been hanging on the Hasslebeck you may want to snag Seneca Wallace if the Bye Week has you struggling to fill your lineup.

Injury Updates:
-Bills WR Josh Reed is out indefinitely
- Stephen Jackson should be in the lineup this week for the Rams
- Deon Branch scratched a shoulder and is apparently out for eternity at the rate he is going.
- Santana Moss is listed and questionable after tweaking a hammy
- Bucs Safety Jermaine Phillips is out 4-6 weeks; anyone playing with IDP need to snag his replacement and for Buccaneers DST owners be prepared.

Player Spotlight: Donnie Avery

Donnie Avery/ WR/ St. Louis Ram

Torry Holt has long been one of my favorite NFL players being an alumni of my Alma Mater NC State but there is a new top gun in St. Louis. Donnie Avery has emerged in the Rams revitalized offense as the primary deep ball threat. Avery this past week had 6 catches for 163 yards and a Teeder that caused the veteran secondary of the Patriots to look pathetic. Avery has blazing speed and great hands to compliment a high football IQ.

We recommended Avery as a strong pickup last week and if you are one of the few who are lucky enough to be in a league where he is still available do yourself a favor and pick him up now. With games against Arizona, San Fran and the Jets coming up in the next three weeks Avery is in a position to move into the realm of top tiered receivers very quickly. Avery ranks 3rd on the Rams in receptions only trailing Holt and Stephen Jackson; with half of his catches coming in the past two weeks and two Teeders to show for it Avery is just starting to heat up. He also leads the team in receiving yards.

When Holt first came into the league he was known as the major deep threat to compliment Issac Bruce and it appears that Avery has moved into that position with Holt not quite having that explosive speed he once had. Avery is the real deal and could be that huge receiver you have been looking for to complete your roster for the playoff drive.
This is not the highlight I was looking for originally so if anyone out there has the highlight of Avery making the NE secondary collegiate but running into one another post a comment to this but this highlight is not too shabby against a veteran in Hobbs:

Hatty's Afternoon Delight

Well Sunday was an exciting day to say the least and there are a lot of things to touch on hear in the Monday version of Afternoon Delight. We did see some players we recommended blow up this week so hopefully all of you were listening and were able to capitalize on it. Here we go:

Really LJ?
Police had officially charged Larry Johnson with simple assault for spitting on a woman. No news as to the impact this will have on LJ's status but it looks immanent that a multi-game suspension will come from Roger Goodell. For all those fantasy owners who hung their season on LJ you may need to look for Jamall Charles or Kolby Smith on your waiver wires and snag them just in case.

Don't hurt em Santana!
Santana Moss had a huge game for owners on Sunday but also tweaked his hammy in the process which could limit him in next Monday's huge match up against the Steelers. Vinny Cerato came out to say he was fine only to be followed by Jim Zorn who said it was more serious than they thought. Sounds like someone doesn't want the Steelers to know who to focus on so I would not be too worried but it is something to keep an eye on.

Down and Out in Big D
Some early reports indicate that the Cowboys may be looking at benching backup QB Brad Johnson after his two dismal performances in the just as many weeks. For those Romo owners looking to hang on until his return on the 16th you may wanna snag Brooks Bollinger. Right now it seems Johnson would start but if he struggles don't be surprised to see Bollinger get in the game.

Quarterbacks? Anyone have any Quarterbacks?
For those owners who have been handcuffed by the Romo, Brady, Palmer and other starting QB's who have missed significant time there may be a nice sleeper out there. Shaun Hill replaced JT Osullivan in the 49ers game this past week and looked strong. Hatty recommends him as an add in his video this week along with some other great guys on your waiver wire.

Hard Hitten!
Jason Witten, who despite my hatred for the Cowboys I have a lot of respect for, will be having an MRI on his ribs today. Chances are that Witten will play through unless Doctor's make him sit out but for those who rely on Witten each week go ahead and scoop up Martellus Bennett and stash him on your bench. Bennett is a great pickup for dynasty leagues if you have the space on your roster to stash him. He has the ability to be an amazing TE over the next 5-10 years.

That is all for today's version of Hatty's Afternoon Delight. If you have any specific questions about players who have a question mark around them for Week 9 already let me know via email.

Let's keep the wins coming!

Sunday Morning Scramble

Something new we will try this week is what I referring to as the Sunday Morning Scramble. If you are like most fantasy owners you wake up on Sunday's ready for a great day of football but there are those key players you are still not sure whether or not they are going to play. Week 8 Start em Sit Em Roundup

It is time once again for the weekend installment of Start Em and Sit Em at Hatty Waiver Wire Guru. Now there are some obvious sits this week based on injury, suspension or some other factor such as Santonio Holmes, Larry Johnson, Willie Parker and Carson Palmer (out for season) that you should not be starting. As with most of our articles and videos we try to focus on the mid-tier players and some top tiered guys who may cause owners hesitancy. Let's get down to it:

START EM'S
Quarterbacks
Jason Campbell: Campbell has been one of the best QB' in football but not so much from a fantasy perspective. He has certainly had some nice weeks against tough defenses which makes him a strong play this week going up against the Lions. The Lions cannot stop anyone and rank in the bottom 3 in both points allowed and pass yards per game. Expect Campbell to have a huge week!
Donovan McNabb: McNabb starting off this season and fire and quickly hit a wall with the struggles around Brian Westbrook. With WB back in the lineup and the Eagles fresh off a bye week expect them to get back to their early season ways. Kevin Curtis coming back gives their WR core a huge boost and Atlanta's secondary is nothing short of mediocre. We could even see the old McNabb come back to life with a rushing TD this week.
Running Backs
Thomas Jones: Jones has put together some nice games over the past few weeks and this week should continue as the Chiefs come to town with the worst Run defense in the league. The Jets O-Line has not been stellar but Jones has the ability to get points from the run or through the air. Expect Jones to put up a solid day with 2 Teeders and potentially more.
Chris Johnson/Lendal White: After last week Jeff Fisher showed there is plenty of fantasy points for everyone in the backfield in Tennessee. With Indianapolis struggling to stop the run and MNF always providing the big stage for young stars to emerge expect to get healthy doses of both White and Johnson. It may not be quite as amazing as last week but both should put up strong numbers. If you have to decide between the two, go with Chris Johnson.

Wide Receivers
Antwan Randle El: Shocked that Moss isn't here. With the Redskins facing the Lions and the fact that you should be starting Moss either way I recommend Randle El. The Lions will throw everything at Moss to try and control him leaving options like Randle El and Cooley free to run points up. I would not start Randle El over a stud but he is an awesome bye week filler this week!
Marques Colston: I am sure a lot of owners were left holding their hands to the sky asking what happened last week. Colston is the premier receiver and the option that Brees needs for a go to receiver. The Chargers also boast the worst pass defense in the league meaning that Colston is in line for a nice comeback game in London.
Tight Ends
Chris Cooley: Starting to notice a theme? The Lions are so bad at defense that any receiver on the Redskins is a strong play this week. Cooley has been consistent but not that Top3 TE that people were hoping to get on draft day. Cooley will have a nice game this week as the Lions consistently show the desire to push receivers to the sidelines leaving the middle of the field wide open for Cooley.
LJ Smith: Smith has been relatively quiet for owners this year but with Atlanta focusing on stopping Westbrook expect the play action to work in favor for LJ Smith owners. Especially in the red zone.
Kickers
Olindo Mare: Simply put the Seahawks defense gives up more points than any team in the league and Mare is in line for some XP's this week. Add in a new coach and a mediocre offense in San Francisco expect them to move the ball but struggle in the red zone leaving lots of FG chances for Mare.
Shane Suisham: Redskins anyone? Whether it be by FG or XP Suisham should be in line for a lot of opportunities and a big day for fantasy owners.
Defense/Special Teams
Baltimore: The Ravens Defense is a no brainer each week but for those owners who keep 2 DST for match up purposes the Ravens are a great play this week going up against a struggling Oakland Offense.
Buffalo: Miami and Buffalo could turn out to be a 6-3 game. Both offenses are not that great and rely on the run making for a low scoring game with fumbles and special teams playing a key role.

SIT EM'S

Quarterbacks
Eli Manning: Between Plaxico playing difficult, the Giants offense not looking great outside of Brandon Jacobs and the Pittsburgh secondary ranking #1 in pass defense Eli is not a wise choice this week.
Kurt Warner: Arizona's offense is strong but the Panthers have the 2nd ranked pass defense in the league so expect Warner's numbers to slide.

Running Backs
McFadden/Fargas: This combination has been dreadful all year and going up against the Raves stellar run defense makes both of these players bad options this week.
Dominic Rhodes: The Indy offense is struggling and it is due to the run game not being consistent. This is not Rhodes fault but between them playing from behind most weeks and the Titans defense on the schedule this is not an ideal matchup for owners this week.

Wide Receivers
Steve Breaston: The Panthers Defense is strong and with Boldin coming back to the lineup this week Breaston is a risky play.
Roddy White: White was on one of the biggest hot streaks of his career before the Bye week. Coming back to face the Philly secondary added with the rust from a bye week makes you wonder if White can keep it going.

Tight Ends
Leonard Pope: For the same reason as Breaston Pope is not an ideal option this week. In addition to the tough matchup Pope has really done nothing all year regardless of the defense.
Heath Miller: We are big Heath fans here at Hatty Waiver Wire Guru but this week is not a smart play with the Giants Defense and primarily their LB core sure to keep Miller in check with Santonio Holmes out.

Kickers
Adam Vinateiri: AV is just not the same kicker he once was and with Tennessee on the schedule there are likely better matchup options on your waiver wire than him.
John Carney: The Giants offense has struggled and now they have to get it moving agianst Pittsburgh. Not exactly the ideal situation for Carney.

Defense/ Special Teams
Chargers: The Chargers defense is not the same without Merriman and wont be all year. The Saints will move the ball in what could be a shootout if the weather plays nicely.
Colts: There are bigger problems in Indy but the Colts defense is on the field too much due to a sputtering offense. With Tennesse playing ball control with their run game expect the Indy D to be on the field a lot and likely to give up too many points.

If you have any last minute lineup choices shaking your head please feel free to email us and we can provide our analysis. Let's get some wins in Week 8 everyone! I want to hear that our readers went undefeated this week!

Hatty's Afternoon Delight

This will be a new daily installment from HattyWaiverWireGuru.com in which we outline some of the biggest stories to players coming in each day. The big focus will be on injury updates, player news and updates on anything that may impact our readers and their teams. So here we go with the first installment.

Smokin with Santonio

- Santonio Holmes - For those who haven't heard Holmes was busted for marijuana posession and early reports indicated that he would be okay for this week. Pittsburgh has deactivated Holmes for this Sunday's game. This is a setback for many owners who had hoped Holmes would break out some consistency but a suspension is looming. Try not to drop him completely until the official ruling comes down but if you need someone look for Nate Washington on you waiver wires.

PARKED

- Willie Parker: After missing practice on Friday it appears that FWP is going to miss another game this week as he continues to try and recover from stepping in holes. This is a tough blow to Parker owners who didn't get the chance to handcuff Mewelde Moore but Moore is expected to start on Sunday once again.

Juicin the Duece

- Duece McAllister: I am not sure of anyone who knows the full impact of the report that was released but Duece has been indicated in some positive testing for steroids. If all holds true this could be a huge blow to the Saints who just lost Reggie Bush to injury. I would recommend for Duece or Bush owners to keep and eye on either Aaron Stecker or Pierre Thomas as the Saints look to them to be their primary backs.

"LJ slapping all of KC"

- Larry Johnson: Larry Johnson apparently is going through a violent streak and after slapping someone last week has now resorted to spitting in his attack on everyone in Kansas City and the Chiefs are planning to sit him this week as well. Way to think on your toes LJ, real dumb!

The Questions Marks

- Jeremy Shockey: Looked pretty horrible last week and with bad conditions expected in London expect Billy Miller to get more looks than Shockey this week.

- Steven Jackson: Returned to practice yesterday and looks to be good to play this week for the Rams but is officially listed as 50/50.

- Laverneus Coles: Coles had a mild concussion but expects to play this Sunday

- Plaxico: Practiced on friday and looks to be a god for Sunday. This is not definite yet but the full practice makes him look like he will be in the lineup Sunday.

- Chris Chambers: Did not finish 1 practice this week and not expected to play on Sunday. Malcolm Floyd has been the primary target in Chambers absence and would be a good bye week fille rif he is on your wire.

- Brian Westbrook: looks ot be a go this Sunday. All Westbrook owners can breath a sigh of relief.

- Kevin Curtis: Nothing definitive have been said but he is practicing and appears to be ready for Sunday as well.

We will be adding to this new piece each day and do our best to provide some last minute player news on the questionable calls on Sunday morning!

“Crap, my team is worse than the Cowboys…Make me a team out of waivers!”

Sorry to all the Cowboys fans but I could not resist. Here is the weekly installment for all of you who have struggling teams and just need to start over. Here is a list of players likely on your waiver wire that can give you a chance to win this Sunday!

QB- Dan Orlovsky: The amount of QB’s out there is thin at best and Orlovsky has potential to be a nice addition. He completed nearly 50% of his passes last week for 265 with a nice 96 yard TD to Calvin Johnson. With Roy Williams gone to Dallas, Orlovsky has less weapons but the Redskins have shown the ability to give up yards so Orlovsky could have a solid afternoon.

Other options: Seneca Wallace, Brad Johnson

RB- Cedric Benson: Benson has emerged as a potential great 2nd half pickup. Chris Perry could not handle the lead role and Benson picked up 52 yards against a tough Pittsburgh run defense. With Houston up next Benson is the featured back and could provide a nice bye week replacements with a lot of potential for the 2nd half.

RB- Duece McAllister: The Duece may not be on your wire but if he is you need to grab him now. The Duece has put up decent number 3 of the past 4 weeks despite being a secondary back and figures to be a key part of the Saints offense. The Chargers Defense has struggled all year so expect Duece to make an impact in London.

Other Options: Dominic Rhodes, Been Green Ellis

WR- Antwan Randle El:
Randle El had some struggles early on in the season but continues to get tosses his way with teams focusing on stopping Moss and Cooley. He has consistently gotten 50-100 yards per week and has potential to get in the end zone. The biggest reason to grab El this week is the Skins face the Lions who have let opposing scout offenses score on them so Randle El should have a nice week.

WR- Donnie Avery: Avery had a breakout week last week and proved he has the ability to be the receiver opposite Torry Holt the Rams need. With Holt’s age increasing as well as his effectiveness Avery looks to be the new deep threat after a 65 yard performance including a TD. Avery has amazing speed and great hands and now that the Rams offense is no longer stagnant he is a great bye week replacement with a chance to be a huge second half contributor.

Other Options: Josh Morgan, Kevin Curtis, Nate Washington

TE- Billy Miller: Miller was already a strong contributor to the Saints offense and with Shockey not making the trip to London Miller figures to be a key part of the Saints offense. Miller has been averaging 3-4 catches a week and this is a prime week for him to get into the end zone. The Chargers pass defense ranks dead last in the league so Miller is likely to get some opportunities

Other Options: Zac Miller, Robert Royal

K- Jason Elam: Elam is 38 and still one of the best and most consistent kickers in the league. With only having one miss on the year and coming off a 5 FG day before the bye week Elam is a great option to get you 10+ points per week. Denver’s offense seems to struggle in the red zone all of a sudden which is good news for Elam.

Other Options: John Carney

DST- NY Jets: The Jets defense is decent but the best reason to play them this week is that they have the Chiefs on the schedule. The Chiefs offense is one of if not the worse in the league and the Jets Defense can stop the run and force TO’s. Leon Washington also has the ability to take one back which just increase their value this week.

Other Options: Houston Texans

Player Spotlight: Mike Furrey

Mike Furrey – WR – Detroit Lions

Don't let the fact that Detroit is on one of the worst offensive teams in the NFL this season detour you from Furrey. The trade of Roy Williams to Dallas makes Furrey the #2 wide out. Even with Dan Orlovsky at QB, Furrey should see plenty of targets as Calvin Johnson draws double coverage. Look for Furrey to be solid as a bye week coverage in shallow leagues and a low end 3rd option in deeper leagues. Stats projection for the remaining 10 games is 50 catches, 550 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Here are some highlights to show what he can do:

Week 8 Top 15 Tight Ends

With fantasy owners scrambling to find replacements due to injury, bye week or a draft day duds you can’t wait on any longer, where can points be made up? Normally you wouldn't think Tight Ends but here is a list of the Top 15 TE's that can make a difference for you on Sunday"

1) Jason Witten: With Romo out this week and the Cowboys in stunned mode expect them to rely on the run and a safe passing game which means that Witten will be the number 1 target for Brad Johnson. Mix in the fact that tampa bay’s pass defense is just mediocre and you can expect Witten to have big numbers.
2) Chris Cooley: Owners have been waiting on Cooley to have a real breakout game and this week. Cooley leads the team in receptions and accounts for about 255 of the Skins offense and with them matching up against the Lions expect a nice week from Cooley.
3) Billy Miller: The Saints rarely have back to back weeks with a bad offensive performance. Shockey did not make the trip to London and the leagues number one passing offense (Saints) matches up against the leagues worst pass defense (Chargers). Miller has been a target all year by Brees so expect a TD this week.
4) Antonio Gates: Gates leads all TE’s in Teeders this year and the Saints pass defense is not that good. Expect Gates to find the end zone in London once and more likely multiple times as he continues to be Rivers #1 target.
5) Owen Daniels: We called him last week in our start em and sit em and he is once again a good play despite going against a better than average Bengals secondary who ranks 6th in the league against the pass. Houston has proven to be one of the two primary targets in the red zone behind Andre Johnson who is sure to be double teamed.
6) Tony Gonzalez: Yes that same Tony G. who has been a disappointment so far this year. Against a weak Jet’s secondary and the worst QB situation north of Miami the Chiefs have few options in a game in which they will likely be playing from behind. No better chance for Tony to get the ball.
7) Bo Scaife: Scaife has become a reliable option in Tennessee and a main target in the red zone for Collins. With a big game on Monday night expect Scaife to have a breakout game with Indy sure to focus on stopping the White/C. Johnson running game.
8) Vernon Davis: With SF having new leadership at the helm and Seattle not being able to guard anyone past the line of scrimmage Davis has some ability to really have nice game and reward owners who have been waiting on him to breakout.
9) Heath Miller: Always solid and a target for Big Ben Miller is one of the most reliable threats in the red zone. With RB being a little shaky and the giants secondary focusing around Ward and Holmes expect Ben to look Miller’s way many times especially in the Red Zone.
10) David Martin: Martin has been a quiet TE but one stat stands out to me. He has 5 plays of 20+ yards which is just behind only that of Jason Witten who has 8. With Miami running the Wildcat you never know who is going to get the ball but Martin has proven to be a reliable target.
11) Dallas Clark: Indy is too inconsistent and with so much talent it makes it tough to rank Clark much higher despite being one of the most talented TE’s in all of football. Going against the 5th ranked pass defense in Tennessee actually fares well for Clark owners as they are likely to focus on Rhodes, Harrison and Wayne leaving Clark as Peyton’s open man.
12) Mercedes Lewis: Cleveland is struggling and Jacksonville offense is starting to click. Lewis has consistently been featured more by Garrard especially in the red zone.
13) LJ Smith: He is hard to ignore and with the WR situation in Philly being up and down Smith becomes one of McNabb’s most reliable targets. Atlanta has not been able to defend against the pass so expect Smith to get a few catches on Sunday.
14) Dante Rosario: Rosario continues to improve and can make catches in the clutch. As teams continue to attempt to stop Steve Smith and pounding run game of Carolina expect Fox and company to throw more wrinkles in to release Rosario from the blocking scheme making for some nice gains for fantasy owners
15) Leonard Pope: Carolina hosts the leagues 2nd best pass defense but in a lineup with Fitzgerald, Boldin and Breaston expect Pope to be the one who benefits from a strong secondary as the only open option.

Top 25 RB's Week 8

1 - Clinton Portis, WAS at DET – Portis is facing the second worst run defense in the league, a defense that gave up 4.5 yards per carry to the Houston running backs last week.

2 - Frank Gore – SF vs. SEA – Even though Seattle is the 21st ranked defense, look for new head coach Mike Singletary to establish a ball control type style that works the clock, so look for increased rushing numbers out of Gore.

3 - Steven Jackson – STL at NE – Denver’s running attack showed New England’s defensive age last week, only multiple Andre Hall fumbles derailed their attack and Jackson is the only weapon Saint Louis has in this game.

4 - Brian Westbrook – PHI vs. ATL – Westbrook’s health may limit his touches in this game, but he is such an integral part of their attack that he will still put up solid combined yardage.

5 - Marion Barber – DAL vs. TB – With Romo and Felix Jones out this week, look for a heavy dose of Barber both running and catching out of the backfield.

6 - Thomas Jones – NYJ vs. KC – He’s facing a team that gave up an 80-yard touchdown run to short yardage ace Lendale White, untouched. Enough said.

7 - Steve Slaton – HOU vs. CIN – Slaton has shown that he has the promise to be a star in a RBC set up with a bigger back. He faces off against a Cincinnati team that is reeling and struggling to find an identity.

8 - LaDainian Tomlinson – SDC vs. NO (London) – Look for LT to be involved in this shoot out early and often.

9 - Maurice Jones-Drew – JAC vs. CLE - Even when they win, Cleveland can’t stop the run, giving up almost 200 yards in their Monday night upset and 175 to Portis in close loss last week. Jones- Drew will exploit the lack of speed at the second level to break a big one in this one.

10 - Marshawn Lynch – BUF at MIA – Lynch is emerging as one of the top dual threat running backs in the league. He faces off against a Miami defense that ranks 12th against the run, but remember they have faced rushing juggernauts like Baltimore and Arizona in 6 games this year.

11 - Chris Johnson – TEN at IND (Mon.) – While Indy has one of the worst run defenses in the league; the concern with Chris Johnson revolves not around Indy’s defense, but their offense. If Peyton comes out and takes them to an early lead, forcing Kerry Collins to throw more than usual, look for reduced numbers out of the Tennessee backs.

12 - Ronnie Brown – MIA vs. BUF – This game should shape up to be a battle of the running backs, Brown vs. Lynch. Look for Brown to struggle as a large portion of Brown’s numbers have come from tricks and misdirection that won’t work against a Buffalo defense that reads and reacts as well as any in the league.

13 - Willis McGahee – BAL vs. OAK – Baltimore has one of the weakest big game offenses in the league, their multiple backs and old school 3 yards in a cloud of dust offense, usually would mire McGahee further down, but he’s facing a weaker Oakland defense this week.

14 - Michael Turner – ATL at PHI – So far this season Turner has looked like he’s worth every penny, but not this week against one of the most physical defenses in the league. The more time Matt Ryan spends on his back, the fewer yards Turner will get.

15 - Larry Johnson – KC at NYJ – Suspended another week... don't start LJ!

16 - Brandon Jacobs – NYG at PIT – Pittsburgh has the second best run defense in the league, but Jacobs is a bruiser, like the Pittsburgh rushers of old that can deliver the first hit. That and Eli keeping the safety out of the box will be the keys to Jacobs success this week.

17 - Earnest Graham – TBB at DAL – Chucky likes running early and running often. Whichever quarterback starts for Tampa, Graham is a keep component as they run to set up the pass.

18 - Sammy Morris – NEP vs. STL – Even though he faces the Rams porous defense, Morris plays for a team with a Jacky and Hyde character. With Maroney on IR look for Morris to begin to wear down from a workload that he’s not used to.

19 - LenDale White – TEN vs. IND (Mon.) – White is the power back in the Titans rushing attack, but don’t look for the Titans to have a big game on the ground, as they will be down early. Peyton Manning has a habit of bouncing back huge from off weeks.

20 - Deuce McAllister – NOS vs. SD – New Orleans has one of the most potent offenses in the league, but there’s no Reggie Bush. That puts McAllister in a position that he’s fairly familiar with as feature back. But, he’s no Reggie Bush.

21 - Willie Parker – PIT vs. NYG – Parker’s back and he’s the only true running back the Steelers have, which is rewarding for Parker owner’s, but also dangerous. Parker will wear down as the game goes on, which takes away some of his luster as Parker’s past success has come in the later minutes of the game.

22 - Jamal Lewis – CLE at JAC – As Cleveland continues to struggle; they may go for a quarterback change mid-game at some point. The best friend a young quarterback is a strong running game, so look for Jamal to have a big second half if they make the quarterback change.

23 - Fred Taylor – JAC vs. CLE – Fred Taylor has become the “other” running back in Jacksonville as Jones-Drew has passed him on the depth chart.

24 - Julius Jones – SEA at SF - Jones would be a better option if Hasselbeck was under center, but with Seneca Wallace under center, don’t look for big numbers out of Jones as the 49ers will be able to load up against the run.

25 - Jonathan Stewart – CAR vs. ARI – Stewart is emerging as one of the best young backs in the league. He lines up against the Cardinals this week, a team with an over-rated run defense as most teams have to throw to keep up with the fast paced aerial attack in Phoenix.

Waiver Wire Success

So you’ve found the next great Ernest Graham, what do you do now? One common misconception around waiver wire acquisitions is that you must have a need on your roster to run out and pick them up. There are 3 other options available to you.

The first option is that if I have them you don’t. Picking up competitive free agents can add wins to your record by keeping these players off of other teams. For instance, in one of my public leagues, a team in a bye week pinch had to drop Maurice Jones-Drew to fill a bye. I already have Matt Forte Ronnie Brown and Marion Barber as my two starters and my back up. So I did not need another quality running back, but I picked him up off waivers anyway to keep him off another team. You can also use these waiver wire gems to build your team in other ways.

Another option is to package these waiver wire diamonds in the rough with an existing player in a trade to upgrade the talent on your team. This option takes a little more patience and more research on your part. If you were the first person to jump on Steve Breaston, then you could package him with a second tier player to another owner in your league to upgrade to a top tier player at that or another position. The success of this option depends on the configuration of your league. 10 team leagues will be more challenging than 16 team leagues and public leagues will be more challenging than private leagues. In a private, keeper or dynasty league there is another option available.

The third option is to deal that next superstar that you found to another team to build for your future. Find a trade partner and deal that waiver wires find for a draft pick in the future. It does not help you with your success for this year. If your team is already strong enough that you won’t use the player this year anyway, this helps you build for future dominance in your league.
So working the waiver wire doesn’t necessarily mean that your team can use that player in your starting line-up. Thinking outside of your current roster with these waiver wire players can be the difference in one or two wins that get you to the playoffs or a championship this year or next. Good Luck and here’s to your waiver wire success.

Player Spotlight: Josh Morgan

Josh Morgan/ WR/ San Francisco

Josh Morgan is someone to look for in any league. Morgan has dropped off of almost everyone’s radar after going down with an apparent staff infection in the preseason. Since then he has been slow to recover but is back and looking like the rookie wideout who had 9 catches and 182 yards with a Teeder in his first two games. Last week he showed what he had the ability to do with 5 catches for 82 yards and a touchdown all while their offense looking dead.

Breaking News before the start of the game is that Nolan is out as Head Coach in San Francisco and Mike Singletary will be stepping in. The Rams proved how valuable a change of attitude can be when they fired their coach a few weeks back and the Rams just upset the Redskins and the Cowboys in back to back week. Either way Morgan has great rapport with JTO and becomes a primary threat.

In many leagues Wide Receivers have become very valuable with so many teams going to a RB by committee approach meaning having a solid WR can win you games. Morgan has the potential to have a breakout 2nd half.

LM Corner - Polls

Background

When starting a league, there are so many things to consider when making decisions. You set rules, positions, and point allocations and you don’t know what everybody wants. However, as time goes on, you will probably want to change some things and use the new functionality of a good fantasy website.

Question

How and when do I make changes to setting of my fantasy website?

Advice

  1. Changes - ALWAYS make changes before or after a season starts. Never change something midway through the season because it may give some an advantage or disadvantage that they wouldn’t otherwise have.
  2. Polls – ESPN.com allows you to create polls on your front page. However, if you’re not using espn.com, you can send out emails (Remember – emails from your personal email are better than those sent through the site). Make sure you include your vote – it matters. Your one of the teams playing.
  3. Time – Give people a week or so to answer or give their opinion. If some don’t answer, don’t answer for them, reduce your sample. Some will really not care, so make changes based off of those that do care. For example, if 8 out of 12 vote, go with the best out of 8.
  4. Decide – Once you close the pole, make a decision. Don’t stand on the fence. If it’s a tie, you’re the commissioner, do what you think everyone will enjoy most.
  5. Communication – Make sure that everyone knows what will be changing and when it will be changed. You can’t make everyone perfectly happy, but everyone SHOULD respect a reasonable explanation of a change.

Week 7 Start Em and Sit Em!

Start Em and Sit Em Week 7

Start Em

QB- Matt Schaub- Schaub has continued to improve over the past few weeks with the exception of the week he missed due to illness. With a weak Lions secondary coming to tow expect Schaub to go for 300 and multiple TD's.

QB- Eli Manning- Eli had been on fire this year until this past week against the Browns which stunned a lot of fantasy owners. The 49ers secondary is not great and expect Eli to get back on track with 250 yards + 2 TD's.

WR- Laverneus Coles: The Jets go to Oakland this week and Coles will be a pretty solid play this week. The Raiders rank 24th against the pass and Coles has been solid as of late.

WR- Braylon Edwards: Fantasy owners were finally rewarded for their patience last week when Braylon had a big Monday night. Expect the momentum to carry over against the Redskins and Braylon to have a solid day.

RB- Chris Johnson: After starting the season off well Johnson had slowed a bit but expect this to be a big week for the rookie RB. Tennessee goes to KC who has allowed multiple 10 yard rushers this week so expect Johnson to make some plays and get 100 yards.

RB- Dominick Rhodes: Many may remember during Addai's previous injury stints that Rhodes was able to fill in when needed and put up solid numbers. Manning has that swagger back that shows they are clicking and when the passing game clicks it opens up opportunities galore for their run game. Rhodes will find the end zone this weekend.

TE: Owen Daniels: Daniels has been a nice surprise to many fantasy owners and ranks 3rd among TE's and leads in 20+ gains by a TE. Daniels will have a big day against the Lions as he is always a primary target for Schaub if his first option is not open.

TE: Zach Miller: Hatty has mentioned this guy in his weekly videos and this week he could be a nice play. The Jets like to stuff the run (3rd best in the league) and with the Oakland offense struggling to find a rhythm expect short passes to be the only regular open play which means Miller should get a lot of looks on Sunday.

Sit Em
(Hatty nor myself never recommend sitting your studs as you may see on some start em/sit em lists but these are a few of the players whose outlook just doesn't look good this week)

QB- JT Osullivan: JT has had some decent weeks but against the Giants D I would not recommend him unless he is your only option.

QB- Chad Pennington: Miami goes up against the Baltimore D and let's face it he is no Peyton Manning. I think Ronnie Brown is a better QB play this week.

WR- Devery Henderson: Between Moore, Shockey and Colston I don't see Henderson being on the field enough to be significant. He has deep play ability but unless bye weeks are hurting you Henderson's value is going to continue to decline.

WR- Chad Johnson: Mr. Ocho Cinco has struggled been nothing that fantasy owners remember him being even two years ago. The Pittsburgh secondary is not the best time to try and breakout of a slump either.

RB- Willis McGahee: McGahee owners (I am one of them) have struggled between injuries, other RB's and the fact that the Baltimore offense is really not that great. With Miami having a strong run defense Mcgahee is not an ideal play if you are deep at RB.

RB- Thomas Jones: Jones had a huge week last week and that momentum could be enough to have a decent week this week but if you have other options you may want to consider them.

TE- Tony Gonzalez: I like Tony but between the soap opera around the trade and the fact that the KC offense has sputtered more 71" VW Bug I wouldn't expect Tony to have a good week.

TE- Vernon Davis: Overall one of the biggest disappointments in a career in my opinion. Either they can't get him the ball or he is hurt week after week and really has no value at this time.

Crap, my team is worse than Pacman with a case of PBR...Make me a team out of waivers!

Here is the weekly column for those of you who tanked it on draft day or are just having one of those season where you just want to start over....a waiver wire team that you can win with this week!

Brad Johnson (QB): One of the hot targets this week with all the teams who put all their value in Romo. Whether you have Romo or not Johnson is worth stashing for the next few weeks especially in the case of a Bye week. A veteran QB with talent galore surrounding him expect Johnson to put up solid numbers every week as he will only be relied upon to manage the game. The guy has won a Super Bowl on a team with much less talent.
Warrick Dunn (RB): We said it last week and if Dunn is still out there get him now. Put up over 100 yards last week and with TB out of FB's expect Graham to fill that role and get less touches until their injury situation at FB get's better. Even then, Dunn has been getting half the carries and putting up nice numbers.
Michael Pittman (RB): Pittman is the starter and at the very least he is going to be the Red Zone back. Scoop him up if he is out there as he can put up 100 yards and TD's despite having to share carries at times with Young.
Bobby Wade (WR): Wade is going to be the direct beneficiary of Bernard Berrian heating up as defenses will tend to cheat Berrian's way giving Wade more visibility. He leads the team in receptions and it is only a matter of time before some of those are for teeders.
Brandon Stokley (WR): Despite the concussion last week Stokely is a great play. With Royal still on the mend and teams quadruple teaming Brandon Marshall it has left Stokely pairing up against a linebacker, corner or just plain wide open. He is a nice red zone target for Cutler in the slot and will make the catch regardless of potential brain damage.
Bo Scaife (TE): Scaife has been solid all year for the Titans and with them going to KC this week Scaife is in line to find the end zone, perhaps multiple times.

Others in case these guys are not on your wire: Kevin Faulk, Sammy Morris, Mewelde Moore, Hank Baskett, Chansi Stuckey

We appreciate everyone who has emailed us for advice on their lineups and keep em coming. Our goal is to help you win your league championship this year and no matter your record you can still get there.

Player Spotlight: Steve Slaton

Steve Slaton has been a nice surprise this year for owners who took a chance on draft day in selecting the rookie back. A standout at West Virginia Slaton has exploded onto the scene as one of the best young backs in the league and been a nice bonus for fantasy owners. Going into Week 7, Slaton ranks among the league leaders in yards, yards per carry and touchdowns in addition to proving his ability to make plays out of the backfield as well. Slaton ranks 13th in rushing in the league this year and 9th in receiving for running backs all while only getting 14 rushing attempts per game and 3 pass attempts per game. The big key for fantasy players is the fact that he has 4 Teeders in 6 games this year for the Texans which proves he is one of their go to guys in the red zone.

Houston’s offense is ranked 5th in the league in total yards per game. Their play call selection is around 60/40 favoring the passing game a little more. Considering Slaton is the teams 4th leading receiver that fares well for fantasy owners also. The big question is the role of Ahman Green in Houston but for the fantasy advocates out there I think we all know it is a matter of time before Ahman goes down with a (insert any injury you wish here) and is out. Green also has the ability to make Slaton even better. A diverse RB group is the trend with pairs like White/Johnson (TN), Graham/Dunn (TB), Stewart/Williams (CAR) and Barber/Jones (DAL) making defenses unable to focus on 1 style of running which opens things up for speedy backs like Slaton to break for big gains.

Slaton is highly recommended to have on any dynasty or keeper style league. At worst, Ahman Green may make it through this season but his days are numbered and Slaton is the back of the future in Houston. With other players like Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson it appears as though Houston may finally be putting some winning pieces together and Slaton will be a premier back for years to come. If he happens to be on your waiver wire consider yourself the luckiest owner in all of fantasy football.

If you still aren't sure remember what he did against the Titans: http://texans.fandome.com/watch/104338/Week-3-Steve-Slaton-Highlights/
