2012 Fantasy Football Rankings: Mid-Tier Players to Target

Jason O. Watson/US PRESSWIRE
As you get into your drafts for 2012 the difference between the teams is going to come down to making smart draft decisions then working the waiver wire through the year.  The mid-rounds are quite tough but here is a short list of players you should add to your watch list.

Here is a list of players that should be around from round six to round nine.

Carson Palmer (QB, OAK) - go ahead and take a look at Palmer's numbers in the second half of the year last year.  Did you do it? Palmer continues to put up solid numbers in 2012 and is mid-round gold due to his upside.

Palmer is the QB to target in the mid-rounds but if you the top 12 QB's are gone or you are looking for a back-up QB then you could go with Big Ben or Joe Flacco:

Ben Roethlisberger (QB, PIT) - I tend to shy away from knuckleheads due to their ability for their off the field antics to affect their on field performance.  The fact is that Ben has some solid WR targets and has put up good numbers through the air.  His issue is that he doesn't find the end-zone as much as I like in fantasy.

Joe Flacco (QB, BAL) - Puts up less yards than Big Ben but tends to find the end-zone a bit more and has less off the field antics.  Personally Flacco goes later in the draft and is just as reliable as Big Ben.  Flacco's downfall is that his upside is limited.  He will give you 3,600 yards and 20 TDs which really won't light your world on fire.

RB's tend to offer the least amount of upside in the mid-rounds, try to draft them early on.

Donald Brown (RB, IND) - Donald Brown is the lead back in Indy and will be picked in the mid rounds of drafts this year.  By the mid rounds it is hard to find any full-time RB's that could start weekly.  This is his make or break it year, but I am hoping for some upside with Brown.

Ben Tate (RB, HOU) - Foster is obviously the man in Houston, but he has been injured before, but even if he doesn't get injured we find the Ben Tate finds a way to put up fantasy numbers.  Last year he found a way to put up 1,000 total yards, but only two TD's.  So if you are in a yardage heavy league or you are a Foster owner then Tate is a fine mid round selection.

Jonathan Stewart (RB, CAR) - there are so many RB's in Carolina, but Stewart finds a way to get in the end-zone and put yards on the ground.  If you are in a PPR league you also receive a nice bonus from Stewart as well.

WR's are some of the BEST mid-round targets in fantasy football.

Antonio Brown (WR, PIT) - I have written about this young man many times, but he is going to put up the numbers in 2012.  Solid mid-round target and one of my favorites for 2012.

Eric Decker (WR, DEN) - are you tired of me writing about Decker?  Well he is going to put up nearly 1,000 yards and near double digit TD's.  Also he does the punt/kick returns too.

Pierre Garcon (WR, WAS) - going to be RGIII top target and with Santana Moss keeping Garcon's double teams down he should get nearly 1,000 yards and near double digit TD's in 2012.
