2012 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 2

Brad Mills - US PRESSWIRE

You want to win the fantasy football championship in all your leagues right?  Well it's going to take some work and you are going to have to work the waiver wire if you want to win your league.

This year we want to give you the top waiver wire targets as fast as possible.  The reason is some leagues leave their waivers open all the time and in other leagues you want to get your selections in as soon as possible.

Let's break down the waiver wire selections from five star pick-ups (the best) to one star pick-ups (guys to watch or only picked up for super deep leagues)

Five Star Pick-ups

Alfred Morris (RB, WAS) - The Redskins never give you a real indication of the RB they are going to start, which is intentional.  Alfred Morris is the lead dog currently and is able to give you good numbers due to the fact that RGIII is a legit QB and the Skins have a nice offense.  One of the top pick-ups of the week.

Jonathan Dwyer (RB, PIT) - it's clear the Dwyer is the better RB in Pittsburgh.  Mendenhall will be back eventually, but I would assume he has lost a step and Dwyer will be really tied into the system by that time.

Sidney Rice (WR, SEA) - it's only a matter of time before Russel Wilson and Rice get on the same page.  People forget that Rice was a Pro Bowl WR and has ability to create plays.  Now that he is healthy he is a solid waiver wire target for week 2.

Randall Cobb (WR, GB) - if you had been reading the site you would know how excited I was for Randall Cobb.  Not only does he give you special team points but he is going to be on the field making plays for the entire season.  If you are in a PPR league Cobb is a solid addition.

Four Start Pick-ups

Matt Cassel (QB, KC) - keep in mind he was playing against Atlanta this week, but Cassel showed signs of solid production and has WR/RB targets to throw to.  Cassel would make a fine bye week filler.

Randy Moss (WR, SF) - Randy Moss shows that he is capable of making plays and delivering some fantasy points.  He found the endzone in week one and now should be slotted onto benches and made ready for the bye weeks.

Brandon LaFell (WR, CAR) - Brandon LaFell should put up three to five catch weeks with 30 to 80 yards and TD's occasionally.  LaFell would fit perfect for a spot starter for injuries or for the bye week.

Dexter McCluster (WR, KC) - on this list of the Four Star Pick-ups McCluster should be targeted by all PPR league players.  There is no doubt he will average five receptions a week.  Solid add for week two.

Colby Fleener (TE, IND) - Fleener is going to be a favorite target of Luck's and will probably be a top waiver wire target all year long.  Go ahead and pick him up, he is the best TE waiver wire pick-up of the week.

Owen Daniels (TE, HOU) - if you missed out on Fleener then go for Daniels.  He may be a little old but Schaub is looking his way often.  I expect Daniels to have up and down weeks and he will not be as consistent in numbers as Fleener, but worth a stash for the bye weeks.

Three Star Pick-ups

Matt Hasselbeck (QB, TEN) - Locker's injury looks a bit serious and Hasselbeck is not the most exciting QB, but he is able to put up usable fantasy numbers.  Locker looks like he will be back for Week 2 so you may need to look elsewhere.

Stephen Hill (WR, NYJ) - Hill is not going to put up week one numbers every week due to the fact that his QB's are less than stellar, but he has solid upside and should be grabbed in Dynasty leagues.

Andrew Hawkins (WR, CIN) - PPR league players only apply.  Hawkins has the ability to make at least four to seven catches a week, which will get you solid points for when your WR's are on bye week.

Davone Bess (WR, MIA) - going to show his value in PPR leagues, but not someone you want as your weekly starter, bye week filler is the best Bess can do for you.

Jaquizz Rodgers (RB, ATL) - I just don't see Turner as the RB of the future in Atlanta.  Rodgers gives you special team points, but Rodgers is a likely candidate to continue to take away carries from Turner.

Rashard Mendenhall (RB, PIT) - Mendenhall will get a chance to come back in Pitt to make an impact.  The real question is how much RBBC Tomlin will utilize.

Kyle Rudolf (TE, MIN) - Rudolf is a huge target for the Vikings and can make a solid bye week filler or injury spot starter when needed.

Two Star Pick-ups

Josh Freeman (QB, TB) - not a solid fantasy week for Freeman, but with softer defenses and a little more time he could be a bye week filler.  Keep an eye on him, but not a waiver wire addition right now.

Roy Helu (RB, WAS) - if Alfred Morris slips then Helu is the man on deck.  If you are hurting at RB and there is nothing out there then stash Helu, but for now keep an eye on him.

Braylon Edwards (WR, SEA) - Keep an eye on Edwards during the season, he could be a play for PPR leagues, but not worth adding right now.

Lance Moore (WR, NO) - got a ton of yards in garbage time in week one, but don't expect weekly consistent fantasy numbers from Moore.  That being said he is the best player on the Two Star Pick-ups list.  Honestly, Moore could be on the four star list if he can find a way to be consistent weekly.

Andre Roberts (WR, ARZ) - showed flashes of fantasy relevance in week one, but not a guy you want to be starting on a weekly basis.  Put him on your watch list.

Kevin Ogletree (WR, DAL) - Not going to put up numbers like that weekly.  He was covered by soft corner-backs and he is going to be up and down in production.

Nate Burleson (WR, DET) - Burleson will be the most consistent receiver on the Two Star Pick-up list.  He will net you four catches on average weekly, with some upside.  He is a fine bye week filler, but not more.

One Star Pick-ups

Danny Amendola (WR, StL) - he is the top WR in StL but honestly that is not saying to much.  Amendola offers a strong amount of upside and is a player you can stash, but I would just keep a close eye on him for now.

Aldrick Robinson (WR, WAS) - Garcon will be back next week, but a player with keeping an eye on if Garcon's injury is worse than we expect.

  2. In a PPR league would you cut Mike Williams from Tampa for McCluster?
Thanks for any insight. I read your site daily.

    1. I would hold onto Mike Williams a bit longer, I see him potentially having a come-back year. BUT McCluster is going to be a PPR monster so if you need someone right now for the short term then make the switch.

  3. OK Hatty thanks for the advice. I already have Torry Smith, Dwayne Bowe, Amendola, and Denarius Moore so I can prob afford to play the waiting game.

  5. In two leagues, I have Greg Olsen as my backup TE, with Gates and Hernandez as a starter in each league. Fleener is available in one league, Rudolph in both. Would either be an upgrade?

Also, in a 12-team standard league, my WRs are Julio, Nicks, DHB, and Sidney Rice. Cobb is gone, but are any of your other waiver wire candidates an upgrade? Crabtree, Mike Williams, Austin Collie are also available...thanks!!

  6. I dropped Beanie Wells for Stephen Hill. Should I flex Hill or Sidney Rice? My WR1&2 are AJ Green and Reggie Wayne right now.

  7. Hatty, my draft didn't go as planned. I'm in a 14 team league and snagged Ogletree after the breakout performance. My roster is as follows : STARTING Cam Newton, Dez Bryant, Pierre Garcon, Marshawn Lynch, Chris Johnson, Brandon Pettigrew, Sidney Rice BENCH Stevan Ridley, Alshon Jeffery, Mikel LeShoure, Santana Moss, Kevin Ogletree, Kyle Rudolph

Who should I dump and what position should I strengthen? Thanks for the awesome articles. I use 'em, man. This site is my go to since last year.

  10. Hatty, I need help with my flex this week. I have Cam as my QB, Spiller and McCoy as my RBs, Colston and Lloyd as my WRs but I'd like to get your take on who should be at the flex. I'm leaning toward Steven Jackson but he has a tough matchup against the Skins and I have Garcon who is the #1 option for RGIII (assuming he's healthy). On my bench I have Hillis, Jaquizz Rodgers, Turbin and Lafell. What do you think? Thanks!

  14. 12 team ppr:
    Drew Brees
    Chris Johnson
    Kevin Smith
    Alfred Morris
    Steve Smith
    Robert Meachem
    Jeremy Maclin
    Fred Davis
    Nate Kaeding

    bench:
    Fred Jackson - IR

Peyton Hillis is on waivers right now. Do you think I should hold onto Jacquizz or drop him for Hillis?
Same thing with Titus Young. Should I keep him stashed or go for a ww pickup?
Trade attempts went nowhere in my league.
