2012 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 8

Cary Edmondson - US PRESSWIRE
The waiver wire isn't as full as usual this week, but there are waiver wire targets to be acquired.  Please remember to work your waiver wire as you build a deep team and then remember to work trades to continue to build your overall team as you prepare for playoffs.

5 Star Pick-ups

Rashad Jennings (RB, JAX) - if MJD is going to miss any time then Jennings is going to get the lion share of the carries.  He is a must grab.

Randall Cobb (WR, GB) - with Jennings officially out for a while, Cobb is a must grab WR.

4 Star Pick-ups

Martellus Bennett (TE, NYG) - he is starting to get some consistent production; he will be a nice start next week.

LaRod Stephens-Howling (RB, ARZ) - Larod is drawing the start weekly in Arizona and if you are looking for a RB then go to LaRod.  He will continue to draw that start in Arizona but he will be boom or bust.

Heath Miller (TE, PIT) - he is finding the end-zone regularly and is worth starting for injuries and bye weeks. One of my favorite spot starters.

3 Star Pick-ups

Jonathan Dwyer (RB, PIT) - did well this week with Redman and Mendenhall out. Only worth a spot start if both are out again next week. Mendenhall should be back next week so Dwyer is only a stash at this point.

Daryl Richardson (RB, StL) - The Rams trust this late round rookie pick.  If you are in a dynasty league you have to own this kid, he is a solid stash currently a borderline start with as many carries as he is seeing.

Dustin Keller (TE, NYJ) - if you are in a tight spot at TE due to injury or bye week then look to Keller who is finally looking better.

Josh Freeman (QB, TB) - as I stated last week Freeman was going to have a big game against the Saints and he did.  Freeman is not going to repeat this performance but is an ok bye week/injury fill-in.

Jake Locker (QB, TEN) - Jake Locker should be back on the field next week and if you are looking for a back-up QB he can be rostered.

Josh Gordon (WR, CLE) - I am starting to believe this kid could start putting up usable bye-week filler numbers.  Gordon can be safely pick-up.

Logan Paulsen (TE, WAS) - Fred Davis is out for the rest of the season; Paulsen is a sneaky starter, but you have to be in a really tough situation. Keep an eye on this TE.

2 Star Pick-ups

Jeremy Kerley (WR, NYJ) - it is hard to trust any NYJs WRs. Don't expect a repeat performance from Kerley but he is now NYJ WR1 and would be better is PPR leagues.

Kevin Ogletree (WR, DAL) - if Dez Bryant misses a game, which I doubt he will, then Ogletree could be used as a spot starter.

Leonard Hankerson (WR, WAS) - as long as Garcon is out in Washington Hankerson can be started in dire situations and has the most upside in PPR leagues.

Montario Hardesty (RB, CLE) - if Trent were to miss time Hardesty would get the load.  He is worth stashing if you are in a dire situation.

Brandon Gibson (WR, StL) - not the most reliable option from week to week, but if you are in dire need of a WR during the bye week then you can go to Gibson.

Shane Vereen (RB, NE) - with Bolden injured Vereen came in and took Bolden’s carries.  Vereen will be a non-factor on Bolden’s return.

  1. What are your thoughts on Brandon Weeden? He's been putting up solid QB2 numbers up on a consistent basis and I was thinking of picking him up as a backup.

    1. No worries picking him up as a back-up but he is not someone you want to rely on week in and week out.

  2. Love your blog; one of the best fantasy sites that I visit every week. One name I didn't see on your Week 8 list is Andre Roberts. He's not the most reliable, but there are slim pickens on my waiver wire and I need more depth at WR. I was looking at Roberts and Devery Henderson for my bench. Brandon Stokely is also available. Like I said, slim pickens...

    1. I see Roberts at #36 on the WR list and is pretty good play this week. Thanks for the feedback.

  3. First time I've been to your site and I see Randall Cobb as a 3-star, bye-week fill-in? In my Yahoo league, he's currently the 4th-highest scoring WR . . . don't think I'll be back here.

    1. The reason for a three star is due to boom or bust, also scoring systems are different for different leagues. I am glad you don't agree though, my advice isn't the be all end all but my job is to bring players to your attention. You don't have to use my rankings are waiver wire, but please don't rely on Yahoo to win your league, there are other sites out there that will guide you better than Yahoo.

  4. don't be too sure about vereen "going away" when bolden is healthy again... they were'nt his carries & won't be anymore just ask billy b.

    1. Vereen looked surprisingly solid, which is good, once Bolden is healthy though I do think this will make Vereen very tough to start.
