5 Super Deep Sleepers
This is the last installment of the "Super Deep Sleepers" series; the focus will be around QB's and TE's that can be had in the last round of your 2010 fantasy football draft. Being prepared for the last rounds is critical to building depth and helping your team through the bye weeks and occasional injuries. If you missed the first two installments "5 RB Super Deep Sleepers" and "5 WR Super Deep Sleepers" then please click the links to catch up.
Charlie Whitehurst (QB Seattle Seahawks): He is the newest addition to the Seattle Seahawks which are going through a ton of changes this off-season. A new coaching staff is in place and is already concerned about Matt Hasselbeck as there long term option. Is Whitehurst capable of being a long term option? I have my doubts, but the word is Whitehurst will be installed later in the season and take over for Hasselbeck. If you end up drafting Hasselbeck this year then I would strongly consider grabbing Whitehurst for your bench. My gut says Hasselbeck starts the season with the potential of Whitehurst taking over after week 10.
Chase Coffman (TE Cincinnati Bengals): The Bengals have yet to find a solid TE option over the years and drafted Coffman in the 3rd round in 2009, but did not use him. He has the ability to be a receiving TE on a team that is able to throw the ball down-field (some people would debate me on that statement). If you are in your last round of the 2010 draft and want an extreme flyer then snag Coffman and let him ride your bench until he starts. If he doesn't start by week 3 then drop him and keep an eye on him, if you have a limited bench then don't bother with this grab and stash TE.
Bo Scaife (TE Tennessee Titans): Jared Cook was supposed to take the reigns in 2010, but doesn't appear to be ready yet. Bo has been signed to another year of duty and I expect decent back-up TE numbers from a healthy Scaife; 500+ yards and 2+ TD's in 2010 while Cook takes another year to grow.
Brandon Pettigrew (TE Detroit Lions): Pettigrew is a monster who is heading into his sophomore year in Detroit. Went down last season due to injury, but is a very capable TE when he starts. If he can stay healthy he will have no problem landing 650+ yards and 4+ TD's which makes him an excellent late round pick for a back-up TE for 2010.
Derek Anderson (QB Arizona Cardinals): This pick is a major reach, but is it really at this point? If the Cards don't bring in another young QB from the draft and Matt Leinart under-preforms, which he is known to do then Anderson ends up on a team with a solid WR core and gets the starting job. Obviously Anderson is a last round pick and will warm your bench, but he has some of the best potential upside if Leinart is benched.
Bonus pick ...
Seneca Wallace (QB Cleveland Browns): What is more likely? Delhomme re-energizes his career in the Cleveland and plays all year or he does the same thing he did in Carolina then after interception after interception gets benched and Seneca starts the rest of the season. Holgrem brought in Wallace when he came to Cleveland and being his old coach makes a strong argument that he is ready to start Wallace if Delhomme fails. Wallace can be had in the last round and warms your bench until further notice.
Late round picks are important, when everyone else in your draft is picking best available in the last rounds you are going to be hunting for back-ups and finding players with potential upside.
All of these players at a minimum you should keep your eye on even if you don't draft them as they are all in situations that could allow them to put up fantasy points if given the chance or if they can remain healthy.

5 RB Super Deep Sleepers
In this edition of super deep sleepers we will cover RB’s that you can snag in the last rounds of your draft that could have a nice upside in 2010. I love finding that last round pick in the draft that turns out to be productive for a bye week or injury fill in and the potential for a breakout.
Kevin Faulk – old man river is going to be a great pick-up in PPR leagues as he plays on the majority of passing downs. This should yield 50 receptions and 400 yards from passes and an additional 400 yards on the ground with about 5 TD’s which makes him a solid bye week filler. He is a safe pick for 2010 and he is a nice back to have on you bench for emergency situations.
Mewelde Moore – with Willie Parker out this moves Moore into a back-up role to Rashard Mendenhall. Mendenhall should be the goal-line back, but Moore will be in on passing downs and he is a great receiver, so PPR leagues should mark Moore as a last round pick-up in a similar situation as Kevin Faulk. Call me crazy, but I am looking for 2008 numbers of 900 combined yards and 5 TDs.
James Davis – Davis is the least safe pick on this list as we have no idea what he is capable of during a regular season game. There is no doubt that he is physically capable of producing solid numbers, but should only be drafted at this point to sit your bench and be in a wait and see type situation. Davis has the upside, but could also be a total flop for 2010. He can easily be had in your last round and should be sitting on your waiver wire for most of 2010. Why did I write about him, because he needs to be on your radar and you need to keep an eye on his situation.
Mike Bell – Bell is going to be a goal line vulture in Philly. I think he will be a poor man’s LT (another goal line vulture for 2010) with just as much upside for TD leagues. You can feel good about drafting Bell late in your draft and look to see 8 TD’s with upside.
Albert Young – Who? Yes, he plays for the Minnesota Vikings and it appears the coaching staff is going to give him a chance in 2010. Chestor Taylor is in Chicago and AP is not going to take 100% of the carries. Young has the talent and now the opportunity to play. Pick up Young in the last round of your draft and let’s see what happens in 2010.

5 WR Super Deep Sleepers
One of my most favorite things to look for are super deep sleepers to draft in the last rounds. I will say my best last round pick was Willie Parker a couple years ago. Here are some late rounders I am strongly considering:
Julian Edelman – Wes Welker will not be back for the first half of 2010 and Edelman will play in slot where he is bound to see a number of catches from the pass happy Patriots. Edelman will stay on the field even if another big name is brought on the opposite side of Randy Moss. Edelman is a lock until Welker gets back; keep an eye on him for your draft.
Dwayne Jarrett - The ex-USC WR is in his make it our break it year; I don’t see the Panthers adding to their WR core a WR who will take Jarrett away from playing second fiddle to Steve Smith. Matt Moore is certainly better than Jake Delhomme, but the Panthers are a run first offense so don’t think Jarrett is going to get beasty. I do think Jarrett can have Muhsin Muhammad year and haul in 750 yards and 3 – 5 TD’s if he can stay on the field. Jarrett is a bye week fill in at best with upside, but he will warm your bench until he can prove he is even worthy, but can be had in the last round of your draft.
Chaz Schilens – One of the most unlikely receivers on this list to be available in the last rounds of the draft. His shear size and speed make him a great target from whatever QB will be piloting the Raiders. If he stays healthy you are looking at a guy who will put up 650 – 1000 yards and 5 – 8 TD’s in 2010 which makes him a bye week and injury filler.
Eddie Royal – the bust of 2009 will return to a Bronco’s team without a Brandon Marshall. If you are in a league that rewards punt returners I think Royal will be consistent in 2010 and worth a stash on your bench as well as a late round pick. If he can return to his former status, which is more likely without Marshall then you have a great late round super deep sleeper.
Laurent Robinson – the obvious issue with this pick is who is going to be the QB throwing his way? My guess would be Sam Bradford and I think he will enjoy Robinson as his #1 target in 2010. If Robinson can stay healthy in 2010 he should produce solid 70 yard, 5 catch, 0.25 TD a week performances which can be a solid bye week or injury fill in for the year. I am marking Robinson down as one of my 2010 later round steals.
That’s all folks for the WR Super Deep Sleeper list, but stay tuned for further off-season recommendations.

Offseason Movers and Shakers
So a lot has been going on over the past few weeks. Draft combines, free agency opening up and a whole bag of rumors to get everyone's blood flowing. One of the things I love about the NFL is that there really is no off season especially when you invest a lot in your dynasty leagues. I know Hatty has been on the pulse of everything as of late but I wanted to highlight a few of the off-season high points and provide a different take on it.
CJ Spiller: he is the buzz at this years combine and rightfully so. Being in ACC country his ability often got downplayed due to a weaker conference compared to that of the SEC or the Big's. Spiller is crazy fast and has the ability to change direction and has great hands for a back. Everyone compares him to Chris Johnson because of the speed factor but I think he is more durable and has the ability to go between the tackles when needed as well. I would throw Spiller out as the #1 target for any fantasy draft unless you are already stacked at the RB position. His stock will continue to rise and he will end up on a team where he can be an impact player very early.
Antonio Bryant: Everyone's buzz is around Anquan Boldin going to Baltimore but I think the more intriguing pickup was Bryant who didn't get quite as much buzz. Bryant had a monster 2009 campaign on a mediocre to terrible Bucs squad. He had some knee issues and when the Bucs season quickly went down the tubes he played it safe so he could get his payday. Make no mistakes, he wants to be considered an elite WR in the league and lining up opposite of Ocho Cinco he will have the ability to be the deep threat that the Bengals need. With the much improved O-Line and overall running game in Cincy, expect Bryant to be a big time target for Carson Palmer and the Bengals offense to rivals the run and gun show of years past.
Rumor on LJ: Buzz in the DC area is that LJ is being courted by the Redskins. This would make his as well as Clinton Portis value go way down. Allen and Shanahan are obviously going for an all geriatric backfield if this turns into reality. Keep in mind that Shanahan is very big on keeping 23 RB's as was evident in his final years in Denver where at one point in 2009 I believe they were on their 7th RB of the season. Until Washington addresses their dreadful O-Line woes I don't think AP, Chris Johnson and sleeping gas in the opposing teams oxygen tanks could really help their running situation. If you have either of them, look to move them as soon as possible.
Eagles QB Position: I have heard a lot of rumors around Kolb/McNabb including McNabb potentially going to the Niners and Kolb potentially going to the Seahawks. All that is certain is they are keeping Michael Vick which just makes you wonder what is going on behind the scenes there. I think it is obvious that Kolb is the future and if the Eagles can find a way to move McNabb they will. If you don't have Kolb for some reason, you should.
LT: I think the Chargers made a great move letting LT go and I don't think it matters where he winds up, he will be nothing more than a 3rd down back and his dynasty value is gone. The jets and the Vikings are a great fit for him to potentially win a title but the glory days of LT dropping 30+ in a fantasy weekend are long gone.
Thomas Jones and the Chiefs: Again, this could go either way but seems to be a weird move for KC who had obviously put Jamaal Charles in the drivers seat for their RB position. Maybe this is insurance or a desire to get some veterans around a bunch of young talent in KC but either way it doesn't do much for Jones value.
These seem to be some of the biggest stories. Some have already been covered by Hatty so I didn't want to bore our readers to death. Some things to keep tabs on:
- What do the Steelers do about Big Ben?
- Where does TO wind up?
- Do any other big names move in the free agency?
- Don't just focus on position players in what you look for, Big time O-Linemen can be just as important in your fantasy analysis. Position players can't put up numbers without a great O-Line.

5 Rookies to Watch
In the spirit of the combine I wanted to give my thoughts on the top five rookies I am watching in no particular order...
1) RB C.J. Spiller from Clemson: If Spiller lands on a team where he can be the main candidate for carries we have a potential break-out RB. I have the number one pick in an expert league rookie draft right now and I have Spiller at the top of my list; he is 6'0" 197 and is fast as lighting. He has had a better college career than both Ray Rice and Chris Johnson; the last missing piece of the puzzle is landing on the right NFL team that will give him the ball. He will be a top 15 pick in the draft and should be someone you target in your 2010 drafts no matter the format.
2) WR Golden Tate form Notre Dame: Potential first round pick in this years draft; he is a solid after the catch WR. I would love to see him on a team that is dieing for a WR2 like the Falcons or Panthers and of course the Chiefs would be a great option with his familiarity of the Notre Dame offense. He is more disciplined than Dez Bryant and could be a safer choice in your 2010 draft if he lands on the right team.
3) WR Dez Bryant from Oklahoma State: This guy defines NFL WR; 6'2", off the field antics, and built like some of the best WR's in the game. He worries me as he hasn't played in live action for a while, but the bottom line is he has the talent and is gifted enough to be a force in the NFL. Early sources say that he will end up on the Bucs which are in dire need of a WR. Mark him down on your draft guide.
4) QB Sam Bradford from Oklahoma: Potential to be the first pick of the draft by the Rams and I can't think of a better spot for Bradford to be drafted and start during the season. He is the most NFL ready QB in the draft and is a great dynasty league draft and stash player. I don't think he will have a Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco type rookie year, but should still be a NFL starting QB with the potential to be a multi-year starter in the NFL.
5) RB Jahvid Best from California: 5'10", 199 lb. RB is the least likely to land a lead role in the NFL, but is fast as lighting. He will make a great change of pace back, but I wouldn't consider him a top pick in fantasy drafts for 2010 unless he lands in a great situation for 2010. Keep an eye on Best.
